President Trump to meet with Little Rocket Man

Brought to his knees by President Trump’s strong leadership, effective sanctions and enforcement and realizing President Trump won’t back down, Kim Jong Un politely asks to meet face to face.
Obama’s failed policy of “strategic patience” (do nothing) is over.

Trump will accept Kim Jong Un's invitation to meet, White House says

President Trump will accept an invitation by North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un to meet, the White House confirmed Thursday night, in a dramatic development after months of sabre-rattling between the two world leaders.

Kim extended the invitation and the president agreed that the two would meet by May, South Korean National Security Adviser Chung Eui-yong announced at the White House.

"Kim Jong Un talked about denuclearization with the South Korean Representatives, not just a freeze," Trump tweeted. "Also, no missile testing by North Korea during this period of time. Great progress being made but sanctions will remain until an agreement is reached. Meeting being planned!"

Trump, according to White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, "will accept the invitation to meet with Kim Jong Un at a place and time to be determined." But, Sanders added, "in the meantime, all sanctions and maximum pressure must remain."

Earlier Thursday, Chung announced that Trump would meet with Kim to "continue the goal of denuclearization."

Kim "expressed his eagerness to meet President Trump as soon as possible," Chung said. "President Trump appreciated the briefing and said he would meet Kim Jong Un by May to achieve permanent denuclearization."

Kim, according to Chung, understands that joint military exercises between South Korea and the U.S. would continue. The North Korean leader, according to recent talks with Chung, also claimed to be "commited to denuclearization."

"He (Kim) pledged that North Korea will refrain from any further nuclear missile tests," Chung said, adding that Trump's "leadership" and "maximum pressure" brought us "to this juncture."

Chung said that "along with President Trump," he is "optimistic of continuing a diplomatic process." But he added that "the pressure will continue until North Korea matches its words with concrete actions."

News of the willingness of Kim to meet with Trump follows recent high-profile talks between North Korea and South Korea.

Earlier Thursday, Trump announced that South Korea would be making a "major statement" about North Korea. Chung met at the White House earlier in the day with U.S. National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster.

Chung and other South Korean officials briefed the White House Thursday on a potential diplomatic opening with North Korea after a year of escalating tensions. Chung told reporters Tuesday that he had received a message from North Korea intended for the United States, but did not disclose what it was.

Trump and Kim have had a contentious relationship during the last year as both men dramatically increased the rhetoric against the other amid the backdrop of increased nuclear and missile testing by the North Korean regime.

In August Trump warned Kim that, if pressed, the U.S. would unleash "fire, fury and frankly power, the likes of which this world has never seen before." At the time, the president argued that Kim had "been very threatening beyond a normal state," adding that the regime "best not make any more threats to the United States."

However, threats and counter-threats continued into 2018.

"The U.S. should know that the button for nuclear weapons is on my table," Kim said during a Jan. 1 speech, according to a translation. "The entire area of the U.S. mainland is within our nuclear strike range," he continued, adding that "the United States can never start a war against me and our country."

The next day Trump hit back against Kim by claiming that the U.S. nuclear arsenal was more powerful. "North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the 'Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times,'" Trump tweeted. "Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!"

The last round of significant talks involving the U.S. and North Korea concluded in 2009. The so-called six-party talks, which involved the U.S., North Korea, South Korea, Japan, Russia and China, ended when North Korea walked out.

If he can pull it off and get NK to de-nuke, props to him and deservedly so. That being said, it's NK and Trump; they both deserve each other. I'll believe it when I see it.

NK will finally get what it has craved so long, respect and acceptance on the world stage.

Can't imagine what the leader of the last cult of personality on Earth can do with that. Hmmmm.

Accolades and praise coming in from around the world for President Trump’s leadership and progress on North Korea.

For 18 months the Democrats and the corrupt liberal media have been saying that Trump will start World War III, Trump wants a ground war in North Korea, Trump just wants to get his hands on the nuclear button blah blah blah. Reality is hitting them hard and now they can’t find the words to justify their false rhetoric.

Every morning at The Capital and on The Hill the Congressmen and Senators make themselves available to the media for interviews. This morning noticeably missing were Democrats.

With strong will, clear and decisive actions and unwavering fortitude President Trump is standing up strong against a dangerous Dictator.

President Trump was elected because he was willing to do the things others were not and he is delivering.

Defensive posture. Kim Jong-un wants assurance that his prison society remains undisturbed by the world. North Korea is a hermit country with its own survival paramount, as also the continuation of its weapons tech export interests. And Kim simply doesn't want his stranglehold on the population threatened.

This is an important meeting, already a success just for the invitation.

However, it won't be easy to work with NK without tacit approval of Kim's butchershop regime, so this will require some challenging diplomacy.

Very good, I wish Trump well on this mission.

Agreeing to the meeting is tacit approval to begin with.

Kim and his father both had wanted one thing for decades...a seat at the table as a major world player and as a recognized nuclear power.

They just got it. Diplomacy can be a dangerous game.

The meeting is supposed to occur in May.

The U.S. does not have direct communications with North Korea. it appears the intermediary will be the South Koreans.

I do not envy the State Department's negotiators.

And we still don't have an ambassador to South Korea. And Trump said the meeting would be in May. North Korea has not confirmed that or a location for the meeting. If Trump doesn't insist on having this meeting in a neutral country, he is a fool.

No, the South Korean Minister said the meeting would be in May.
Did you not see the South Korean Minister's announcement or are you yet again uninformed?

President Trump is getting the job done.

Wrong again. Trump had nothing to do with setting this up. It was arranged by the two Koreas after the Olympics. Trump was told the announcement would be on Friday, but he couldn’t keep his mouth shut. NK is setting up Trump you fail.

This will be interesting.

History tells us that North Korea has but one objective: become a nuclear power to protect the regime.

North Korea has the capability to deliver a nuclear weapon to nearby “enemies” and very soon will be able to deliver an atomic weapon to the continental U.S.

That is not acceptable.

President Trump is aware of the threat and will do whatever it takes to defend the U.S. and its allies.

North Korea also has a history of making “deals”, taking the benefits and ignoring their obligations they agreed to. President Trump is also aware of this.

Kim Jong Un is about to meet a strong Leader of The Free World who is also a master negotiator.
President Trump knows the failures of the past.

On the surface the coming negotiations do not have a good chance of solving the obvious problem, but we have never had a President go into the negotiations with no political agenda; only a peace objective.

All we can do is hope for the best while planning for the worst.

Not that hard of a setup, diplomacy is hard and takes work, patience and study.

I say let it play out. I doubt Trump will trust that little twit.
If he can pull it off and open negotiations thats a good thing.

Better than sending him money and reactors to jump start his nuke program.

Interesting. A meeting between a dictator & a dictator wannabe. Two impulsive players looking for love. Should be a marriage that lasts for a long time. Maybe Stormy can tag along to whisper advice into Comrade Trump's ears.

Kudos if Trump can actually accomplish something worthwhile after this meeting. I'm betting he'll f*ck it up either from being completely unprepared for the meeting or being outplayed via flattery or being offered promises that the North Koreans have no intention of keeping.

After all, remember that Little Rocket Man is basically following his father's play book as "Big Rocket Man" pulled a similar stunt with Madeline Albright at the end of the Clinton administration in 2000. She too visited North Korea and negotiated concessions as well. Lots of promises made and, as usual, the North honored none of them. As experts have already stated, the North are masters at using the carrot and the stick.

One other VERY important issue lurking behind this potential detante is the fact that Trump has mere days to either re-certify or scrap altogether the Iran nuclear deal already negotiated. Don't think for a minute the North Koreans aren't paying VERY close attention to what Trump decides regarding this little nugget. The outcome could very well dictate just how successful this opening with North Korea could be.

Trying to create discord yet again with the same tired script? Come up with another two sentence first grade response, will you? Your "bottness" is so obvious....All the lefties in here, including me, gave a shout out of approval and acknowledgment to Trump for making this happen.

I see more agreement in this thread then in quite sometime, actually...We're actually having a reasonable conversation. Maybe if you left it could continue, Bot Boy.

They've been to the table plenty of times, just not recently....Each time they make promises and never live up to them. All the while continuing toward increased nuclear capability. Good for Little Donnie to bring them back to the table and hopefully this time will be different. But no one should misunderstand that Kim is using the same playbook his father did. In particular, Donald Trump....
