Both versions are great, but I really dig the acoustic one.

Tommy Bolin is known for his hot lead guitar playing on Billy Cobham's "Spectrum" in particular, and anyone who followed his career was impressed by the skill and range of his songwriting and rhythm skills with the James Gang, solo, and with Purple.

However, not enough gets said about his soulful singing. His voice was not huge like Gregg's or Robert Plant's, but it's so evocative and full of character, especially on numbers like this acoustic demo that jsz posted. I get goosebumps.
