I love Dave Mason, I have a special place in my musical heart for a lot of special contributors with Dave being one of them. The old time feel good earthy innocent natural place his music transports me to is always a good visit. When you see Dave you know what you're going to get and he'll add or drop a couple tunes (last night no Sad And Deep or Bring It On Home (which I've caught in the past)) but you're assured the core of his input (and then some) of his part of musical history.

His current band is tight with Johnny Sambataro on guitar/vocals, Tony Patler on keys/vocals, Alvino Bennett on drums, and Gretchen Rhodes on vocals with praises of dynamic talents and Aloha spirit! (more detailed info here - https://www.davemasonmusic.com/the-band )

Dave Mason's been a part of and played with the Who's Who on What's What. Make to some time to treat yourself to one of the greats when you can.

Love Dave Mason, those first 2 Traffic albums are my favorite period of the band. Welcome to the Canteen is a great live album, and it probably shouldn't be since Mason only played a handful of dates with Traffic before bailing again.

I've caught Dave Mason a few times over the years, most recently with TTB at the Beacon. Great set, though it was heavier than I'd expected (lots of guitar solos) since I was mostly familiar with his early rootsy work with Traffic, solo, and Delaney & Bonnie. Hope it was a great show.

Thanks. I checked out We Just Disagree and then Feelin' Alright because youtube went right into it, even though you didn't post it here I could see it was yours also. Dave sounds real good, wouldn't mind catching him if he should pass through the Bay again. Haven't seen him since the 70's. Kudos to Dave for keeping his sh*t together, he's got to be around 70 years old, looking and sounding good.

I want to tweak the interest and get folks from either behind the work desk or off the couch to go see him. The whole show is there, but only posted less than 1/2. You HAVE to be there to really feel the night. Live music melds itself with your heart rhythm if it's done right. Support live music, It needs us too, Not trying to be coy though I'm probably succeeding. Make every effort to see the folks making the music that moves you.

I've seen him the late 80's on and off. I 1st saw him with just 2 acoustics and Jim Krueger. Special intimate format, Special night, but ya know when it all comes down to it it's Just A Song......

Thanks Frets. I saw Dave at the first concert I ever attended, the great Cal Jam II in 1978. I had his live album on cassette tape. Glad he's still out and about!

Way back in time I found or otherwise procured a cassette tape which had DM's Headkeeper on one side and on the other side Summer Side of Life by Gordon Lightfoot - still my favorite Lightfoot album . I wore out that tape and continue to listen to both those cd's frequently and heartily recommend them to everybody.

First time I ever heard of Dave was while watching Cal jam II on tv, I thought he was great, I picked up Let It Flow and have been hooked ever since. He plays Long Island once or twice a year, always a great show. Dave and Jim Capaldi have a real nice live album together as well.

I’ve seen Dave a few times over the last five years. Always brings a goo honest hard working show. Not a lot of variety

Like Jeff Beck I think his career suffered due to inability to play in a “group” setting

Didn't Eric Clapton invite Dave Mason to join The Dominoes before Duane ever arrived? I believe I read that years ago, and that Mason declined. Anyone?

Found this 1970 Clapton RS interview where he alludes to Mason joining The Dominoes:

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/eric-clapton-19701015

RS: Do you think you could play with Dave Mason?

EC: Yeah, I think he has a fantastic touch. I love the way he plays guitar. And his songs are great. But as yet we're two different personalities, and the music that comes out of those personalities at this time is quite different. And he has a lot of things on his plate at the moment that he's trying to get together. He should go out to America, and do a tour in his own name. Because I don't want him to join this group and become one of the Dominoes until he's really got some kind of recognition he deserves as a solo artist.
