I'd be a little bummed if I paid full price.

http://www.groupon.com/deals/mountain-jam-2011

Live music, like a juicy watermelon, a game of Red Rover, and a somersault through a flaming hoop, is best enjoyed outdoors. Enjoy al fresco entertainment with today's Groupon to Mountain Jam Music Festival 2011 at Hunter Mountain Ski Resort in Hunter. Choose from the following options:

•For $39, you get a single-day pass for Friday, June 3 (a $79–$99 value).
•For $39, you get a single-day pass for Saturday, June 4 (a $79–$99 value).
•For $44, you get a single-day pass for Sunday, June 5 (a $79– $99 value).
•For $83, you get a three-day festival pass for Friday, June 3 through Sunday, June 5 (a $157.50–$184.50 value).
Touted as a top music festival by Rolling Stone magazine, Mountain Jam packs more than 50 bands on four stages and 15,000 music spectators in a lush, natural amphitheater nestled in the Catskill Mountains. The ear-pleasing lineup for the 7th-annual festival boasts headliners My Morning Jacket, Southern-rock jam band Gov't Mule, and the eclectic sounds of Michael Franti & Spearhead. While this Groupon is not valid for camping or lodging costs, out-of-towners can camp or sleep in the great indoors in a dizzying array of nearby hotels, lodges, and ski chalets. The health-conscious festival, partially produced by guitar legend Warren Haynes, distracts unruly mouths from asking fellow concert-goers uncomfortable personal questions with a jellybean jar of organic and vegan eats.

This Groupon includes all taxes and facility charges associated with the passes.

I've had this kind of thing happen to me before. If I were in your shoes I would call either the venue or the ticketing service and respectfully complain. They will work with you I would think, giving you something. I think the tough part is getting cash back as I think that is a done deal.

Can't hurt to ask. Good luck!

I'm pretty ticked as I paid $130 a ticket but I am not sure what I can do. This is certainly not the way to encourage early ticket sales in the future.

Wow! That is an incredible deal! Sucks though for those who bought early bird tickets like Doug and so many others. If I were going I would have had my tickets long ago.

a lot of angry people on the MntJam website about this. I personally don't care. Like it was mentioned this doesnt make a difference for camping people.
2) I am happy to support the Jam. I got my tickets early so the cost of 4 days of music was very cheap in my eyes.
Maybe if there was a camping pass also on Groupon i would be singing a different tune, I usually sit way up on the mountain during the shows so a few more people won't make a difference to me!

It's not a matter of being angry. It is simply going to change people's behavior in the future. Why buy the tickets early and rely on their word that prices will go up when it appears they will go down dramatically?

Thats the gamble and trust me I understand where your coming from, a lot in my group this year are upset because of this groupon.
On the same token what if there was no Groupon and you waited until the last minute. You would have paid how ever much more for your tickets since the prices keep going up online closer to the show.
Its a gamble these days, unfortunate but true.

Due to low finances I wasn't going to go at all this year. Now, thanks to Groupon this poor bastard will not miss the only Gov't Mule show of the summer. Just bought my $39.00 ticket for Saturday June 4. Will be driving up seeing the show and driving back the same night. Will be a long and tough three hour trip home but for that price who cares. I will rough it out!

Hey Pete

I was thinking of doing the same thing but I have a family party that Sat. It wouldn't fly to well if I missed it.

Have a great time.
I'm gonna watch it on I-Clips.

I thought a group-on only worked if a certain set number of people bought in on the deal, Have they sold enough already?

I'm glad you can make it Pete. But it would have been better if I just handed you the extra money no? Anyway make sure you say hello when you get there.

I'm a little indifferent about this 1/2 price deal mostly because I prefer getting my tickets well in advance of such events and so I'll pay a premium for such convenience. However, what I'm most curious about is why do promoters feel the need to constantly tweek with what I at least perceive to be a pretty well run festival. Over the years I think Mt. Jam has worked most of the kinks out and is now one of the premier events in the Northeast. I guess I suspect most people aren't like me and might be more than a little pissed about this half price deal. As Doug suggested, why screw with the loyal fans who come to this festival year after year? Why create confusion and anger when the process worked well in the past? If sales are down, perhaps that's why this is being offered. Only thing that makes sense.

Pete,

Does this mean that you aren't taking the room at the Mountain View Motel? If so, do you know if they booked it?

maybe they should offer some VIP services for the folks who paid the extra amount in advance...when it comes to Warren, I'm sure he's down with making it right for these folks, in whatever capacity he can. Heck, if I got to hang with him for a half hour or so and shoot the chit, that might make up for it in my world.

I can understand the perspective of the folks who are upset about this. But with cheaper ticket prices, I still won't be able to go!!! D'oh! Thank somebody for iClips.

If I got to hang out with him for two minutes it would make up for it but I doubt that is going to happen. I'm not really upset. But it's just par for the course.

Yeah, when I canceled the woman said they had a waiting list so I didn't post it here. Thanks again for the heads up on that room. Sucks that I couldn't use it!

Yeah, that does suck. But at least you now get to attend at least one day. That's better than nothing.

Abbsolutely!!! A little bummed that I can't do Friday and Saturday but I am seeing Hot Tuna in a month and I saw Warren's new band at the Beacon so I can deal with not seeing them again although I wouldn't mind catching the WHB again. I have a feeling that they will hit the NY area sometime over the summer again.

Missing that only scheduled Gov't Mule show though would really have bothered me though so I am glad I was introduced to that deal and glad my buddy is willing to do the whole thing without sleeping over. Will have to suck down some caffeine for that three hour drive home at midnight!

It sucks for those who spent money already. But if sales are down then they have to do something to encourage people to go. You may have spent more but consider it an investment on having future Mtn Jams.

Not sure of the numbers but they are obviously down.

Didn't think I could make it that weekend but now like Pete. I may have to do that late night drive thing. Paging the usual roadcrew.

Not sure if I agree, the price tier levels keep going up because tickets are selling (or because they want to just raise the prices).
I think it was just a quick way to sell more tickets... and honestly although I love the line up this year it has less bands total and definitely less "mainstream" bands that require shelling out big bucks to get to play the festival.

Pete,

Have you considered the bus deal from NYC and back each day? I recall receiving an email from the Mule site mentioning this "shuttle bus" deal for each day of the festival. I think it was pretty reasonable and would save you the hassle of driving back with a good buzz on. You should check into it. And the ride home might be nearly as entertaining as the festival itself.

If its anything like the past better plan on that drive starting an hour later.
