Thread: The future of the Peach Music Festival

BoytonBrother - 3/14/2014 at 01:45 AM

Anyone have info on what will happen with this festival after the band stops touring this year? I have a hopeful theory that the band might perform at this festival each year. If the festival continues with the normal Allman-related acts, then Warren and Derek should be there with their own bands. If all the members can be there each year, why not make the festival the one time the band performs each year? The festival could keep growing each year if fans knew it was the only time and place they can see the Allman Brothers. Gregg, Warren, and Derek never ruled out an occasional future show together.

Agree that's why the break up makes little sense to me. They could do Wanee, the Peach Festival and the money making Beacon run every year for a few more.

Or just have TTB/Mule headline

That question was asked of the Peach Fest organizers on their Facebook page and their answer was that the festival would continue on past this year.

Wanee officially say that it will continue on as well...

Part of the deal here, I think, is that Warren and Derek want more scheduling flexibility. If things work out so their bands wind up at the Peach Festival, they'll play there. If not, they'll do something else. They won't have to schedule around the ABB's commitments. They won't have to give up as much of the summer touring season. Their bands may do some of the same festivals the ABB has done, but if they do them all together and then reunite with the ABB, that sort of defeats the purpose of what Warren and Derek are doing. I wouldn't expect them to stick to the same schedule.

But if the festival will continue, and Mule and TTB may or may not be on the bill, and no ABB, then how is it the Peach Music Festival without the 3 biggest "peach" acts?

And if the festival ends, then why did they try to make it an annual festival knowing ABB were retiring, and the chance that Mule and TTB won't be there? It doesn't make sense. Clearly we are not being told something about the break-up.

For the sake of argument: if they call it the Peach Festival, it's the Peach Festival. They can still book ABB-related acts and acts that appeal to ABB fans.

Nobody knew. And if you haven't noticed, long-term planning is not the ABB's strong suit.

Didn't know leaving March and a few scattered dates available would be such and issue.

It depends how the schedule works out. For example, let's say TTB is booking a European tour in the summer that has them hitting some festivals (which are great opportunities for reaching new fans). It's possible they would have to cut the tour short or miss certain opportunities just so Derek could get back for one (or a few) ABB dates.
