March 26 ABB at The Beacon theatre NYC
March 26, 2009 at the Beacon saw the Brothers play their first two albums in order in their entirety. No special guests except the spirits of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley. Wow what a show it was. Derek and Warren really conjured up Duane that night. Greg sounded great and the rythmn section burned it down. Before the show I was hoping to see a "famous" guest but afterward I was so glad it was just the band because they were incredibly tight while jamming out the tunes verily. The dude sitting next to me declared the Whipping Post was one of the top 3 of all time and the absence of Duane notwithstanding I would have to agree, it was smoking. My favorite was Black Hearted Woman, wow what a tune, Hoochie Coochie Man was killer as well. I was a youngster when those recordings came out and I literally wore the grooves off those albums so having them played so well 40 years later was a thrill. The soul and intensity that Duane forged all those years ago embedded in those albums leave no room for pretenders and the band this night was up to the task. Thanks guys and R.I.P. Duane and Berry........ By the way I attended the show with my niece who was born in 1982; ,she loved it proving the music of ABB is timeless!
