They are saying 7 dead and 30 injured so far. Don't really have any details, maybe someone else can fill in on what is up.

CNN) -- Two gunmen opened fire at Fort Hood in Texas on Thursday, killing seven people and wounding between 12 and 15 others, officials said.

One of the shooters has been apprehended, Fort Hood spokesman Sgt. Maj. Jamie Posten told CNN.

"At this point we're looking for the other shooter," Posten said. Asked for a description, he said, "we're trying to develop that information."

President Obama has been informed of the incident, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters.

Watch developments live

Fort Hood was asking people on post to stay away from windows, CNN affiliate KXXV said. The incident took place at the sports dome, now known as the soldier readiness area, the station reported.

FBI agents are headed to the scene to assist, said Erik Vasys, spokesman for the FBI office in San Antonio. He had no other details.

On the Fort Hood Web site, the word "closed" is posted with the statement, "Effective immediately, Fort Hood is closed. Organizations/units are instructed to execute a 100 percent accountability of all personnel."

Fort Hood is the Army's largest U.S. post, with about 40,000 troops. It is home to the Army's 1st Cavalry Division and elements of the 4th Infantry Division, as well as the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and the 13th Corps Support Command. It is located near Killeen, Texas.

In June, Fort Hood's commander, Lt. Gen. Rick Lynch, told CNN that he was trying to ease the kind of stresses soldiers face. He has pushed for soldiers working a day schedule to return home for dinner by 6 p.m., and required his personal authorization for anyone working weekends. At the time, two soldiers stationed there had committed suicide in 2009 -- a rate well below those of other posts.

One of the unintended consequences of too many deployments PTSD , at least that's what I'm thinking.

Then again, the just released the name of the gunman which is Major Malik Nadal Hasan...hmmm...I wonder what the deal is there?? And with two more arrested who was working with him, apparently.

No bigotry here, just acknowledging a possible clue as to the motivation. Then again, mglowenstein, stereotyping folk ain't new to you, that's for sure.

Regardless, what an unimaginably horrible event.

I was just about to post that. Here it comes.....better lock up every single person in the US with a middle-eastern sounding name.....Barack HUSSEIN Obama. Pick him up.

Take the locks off Guantanamo. We're gonna need it.....

Not jumping to any conclusions, jut relaying the info as it becomes available. The breaking news that he may be a recent convert to Islam may not have anything to do with his motivation for murdering fellow soldiers. Time will tell.

It looks the other two suspects have been cleared and released, so it is down to one individual. Hopefully his motivation will be figured out soon- a nut case or militant or his old lady left him, whatever it may be..

What a bunch of jumping to conclusions based on a foreign name before all the information is in. I'm not surprised....but then again, this is the guy who 'knows it all.'

I never heard for certain he converted to Islam. He may have but all I've heard and read is speculation that he did, not fact.

This isn't the first time Fletch has jumped to such conclusions. Remember his post about getting ready to whoop some Middle Eastern ass right after 9/11, until he realized they were Sikhs he was glaring at?

One would think someone who's so good a jumping to conclusions would be pretty buff.

It's at least something to wonder about. I'm sure the police are looking into the angle as it is a legitimate angle and has happened a number of times around the country. We are likely to know soon enough and I have not heard anyone call for locking up anyone. It is not a "foreign sounding name" it is a Muslim name. Let's call it like it is.

Wouldn't it be a shame if someone happened to "accidentally" trip over the plug.....

So the fact that he has a muslim name automatically means that his religious orientation was a direct contributing factor in his murdering of 12 people.

Jesus.

I can see we have made no progress whatosever since 9/11.

I KNEW someone would say this. OK let's look at my words:

"It's at least something to wonder about. I'm sure the police are looking into the angle as it is a legitimate angle and has happened a number of times around the country."

Now let's look at your interpretation of my words:

"So the fact that he has a muslim name automatically means that his religious orientation was a direct contributing factor in his murdering of 12 people. "

Is that what I said? In what way can what I said be interpreted in that manner? This is why it is not possible to have a civil discussion here.

Now let me ask you? Are you denying that it is even a possibility? Does fear of being seen as religiously bigoted mean you are not allowed to consider a religious motive? Or is that only permissible if the attacker is a right wing Christian? Does murder in the name of Islam not exist at all? Is it a concoction of the right wing?

Ain't that about it ? Man they can cuss the Christian till hell freezes over. But let oppostion to gays or muslims enter the picture and the ACLU and every other dang bozo pop's outta the wood work in their defense .

I'm NOT opposed to Muslims OR gays. But I don't think suggesting the possibility of a muslim motivation for a crime makes one a bigot.

Doesn't anyone see the problem with judging a man's actions by his name? Here's my take on what happened. The guy was a doctor who counseled soldiers returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. After hearing their stories and dealing with their post traumatic shock for the past six hears, he gets the news he was going to be shipped over there. I think he was scared spitless and went nuts. I think crazy, even coward could be applied to this man, however until there is evidence to the contrary, I don't think his religion had a thing to do with it. But he's got a Muslim name so that must be why he snapped?
