Hi folks, how are you all doing out there in ABB land?

Forgive me if I ramble on here, but earlier today as I was driving I was thinking about the various message boards I post on and I found myself wondering why they always seem to have so much drama on them.

Now this isn't some sort of rant about this particular forum, in fact I really like it here and you all have made me feel very welcome!!

But even in this Peach haven, we have some Gregg fans and some Dickey fans who love to go at each other. Now isn't that a bit silly? They were both so important to the ABB! I could never pick one over the other! I also post on comic book message boards where fans of the same comic characters go at each other non stop!! lol

Is it just the nature of the internet beast? If so, why is that?

Is it because people work hard all day and come home tired and cranky?

Is it human nature? Do we just love to fight/argue??

Or is it because the anonymity of the internet gives us the freedom to say things to others online that we might never dare say in person?

Anyhoo, I'm about to mix a vodka martini and watch todays Price Is Right so I'll catch you all later!!!

BTW, if there's a Price Is Right forum somewhere out there, do you think they're arguing about who was better---Bob or Drew?

Then there is the age old controversy ... Rodgers and Hammerstein or Rodgers and Hart - you choose.

A lot of us are fans of Dickey and Gregg and the entire band and all it's various line-ups.
I am one of those, although I am a Gregg fan first. I think you have missed the point of
a lot of "fighting" here. Sounds to me like you are trying to stir the pot a bit yourself.

Agreed. Most of us try to stay out of it nowadays since for 10 years it has been a constant thing here. New people come and think they are asking a serious question, not realizing the question is salt in somebodies wounds. And we get new Dickey "Protectors' regularly (who asked them-certainly not Dickey) who think they are doing a good thing and don't realize to most of us it is just disruption. Some (Hi Tennessee) want to just be disruptive, but they don't realize they are the 20th iteration of the same thing and therefore just a pain. I think most people on ABB still go to see Dickey or at least listen to him but to some folks that is not enough, ie reject the ABB or you are untrue to Dickey (ridiculous).
So, it is just downright silly now. I would think more of the split if there was not two bands out there now playing and playing well. I'd like to see them both more often.

And add this from Annarose's original post....

Or is it because the anonymity of the internet gives us the freedom to say things to others online that we might never dare say in person?

I'm really not. I just love them all and I'm just trying to have a good time. I'm also just feeling a little silly tonight.

If we get to know each other you'll see I just have an odd sense of humor!

Me too! I'd love to see them both again but I don't think I'll be able to. In a few short months I'll be moving from Detroit to Anchorage and I doubt either band will make it up there anytime soon. The greatest regret of my concert going life will be not having seen Gregg Allman and Friends. But the truth is Gregg just never brought his band up here to the Motor City all that often.

I agree with Deb. It's a little bit of all of it. People have their opinions, views, etc., and feel STRONGLY about them. Others aren't as out front with them, even though they may feel just as strongly as the more vocal folks. They just don't feel as compelled to make a statement.

As far as the anonymity aspect, a lot of folks from both sites have met and fellowshipped at shows and are generally respectful and nice to each other. Some folks have one reputation online and have another offline. Personally, I like to represent myself as if I was face to face and in person at all times. I believe in kindness and am generally non-confrontational. I also like to be the peacemaker, sometimes to no avail. At least, when someone from the website meets me for the first time, they are more likely to say, "Gee! You're just like you are online!" I'd rather have that than, "You're such an ass online, but you're really nice in person!"

If we were all alike, I imagine this place would be pretty boring.

But he played Kalamazoo and Sault St Marie (SIC) a few years ago - in January, no less. He actually bumped Chicago from Saturday night to Sunday to accomodate the SSM show. Not real smart business sense to risk alienating his 2nd biggest market (and lose substantial ticket sales) to play the North Pole.....LOL

He also got sick too and barely made it through the Chi-town HOB show. But having Robben Ford in the band made it worthwhile.

I just didn't know about it. I would so love to see a Gregg show.

On another note, Dickey played a free show here in Motown recently and I missed that. I had to work to keep my job, y know?
