I love the band but won't do another Mule pre-order after the "Tail of Two Cities" DVD pre-order was botched. They never made good on updating the "extra" DVD that was the main draw of that pre-order in the first place. So several months later, the fixed discs came and we got - if my memory serves correct - 10% off our next Mule merchandise order as a sweetener for the delay. Too little, too late.

Sometime after that DVD debacle, they offered a hoodie pre-order. I don't get it - a pre-order for a hoodie?! About the only "pre" anything I'm interested in is a ticket pre-sale where either the seat selection or ticket price is better than anything that could be had in a regular sale.

On a more positive note, I picked up By A Thread last night ($9.99 Newbury Comics) and I'm loving it! IMO this is easily their best release since the Woody days...

Pre-orders allow them to judge the demand for new items or products. Usually you get a bonus and most of the time it comes on the same day or before the release date. It's also a way to get the fans involved with the band by getting you/us to visit the website, check out other info and products and help the band be successful so they can continue to get paid for making music. Hopefully the band makes a liittle more money by selling it direct to us instead of going through retailers - it depends on their deal with MusicToday. You may pay a little more but there's usually something exclusive as a give-away to even it out. I just downloaded the Soundcheck Series bonus that came with the pre-order and I'm happy to have it.

Yes, I agree... although I do have one complaint that seems to be the norm whenever I PRE order anything with Gov't Mule. And that is... well, everyone seems to be enjoying the album long before me. It seems that if other people could have it early, shouldn't the people who pre-order at least have it by the day it was released (which I guess is today)...

I also purchased the pre-order, although I am still waiting for it to drop onto the mat. My question is, how do I go about downloading the Soundcheck bonus disc, is there an e-mail with a code number????

I am with you on this. Not including the fixed bonus DVD for 'Tail Of Two Cities' was also my breaking point. I also thought the bonus shirt they included with the 'High & Mighty' preorder was ugly and cheesy. If they want to lure people to preorder they should give you a choice of a cool shirt from the shirts they are selling on tour IMO.

I got my copy of 'By A Thread' at a record store on Long Island Saturday and paid six bucks less than what Musictoday wanted with shipping. So I got it four days earlier than those who preordered and paid less. I will get the bonus material eventually too. I guess it's all good either way as long as we all bought our copies.

I love the Mule...but no more preorders for me...I also stopped after the botched Tail Of Two Cities DVD. It's a shame...some the bonus discs offered earlier were great

We ordered By a Thread at Mt . Jam. Anyone else who signed up for this pre-sale get theirs yet? I'm hoping we'll have it by Thursday.

Got it and the shirt. Just downloaded the extra tracks off the Mule site. Those sound pretty good too. Shirt looks nice, but the front Govt Mule By a Thread looks faded compared to the back graphic. That may be the way it was intended to look. I ordered mine off the GM site, not at Mtn Jam...

This seems to be pretty common with new releases. We get psyched to get it quick, but the label or artists strike dealers with the big sellers who offer a sale price. With the DTB there was a lot of stink when Best Buy offered Already Free with three bonus tracks and half the price of the pre-sale.

I gave up on presales a long time ago. Finally realized I had confused pre"sale" with pre"delivery". Or even on-time delivery. Mule used to offer a CD that you couldn't get elsewhere so that sort of made it worth it if you had to wait a few days. But what's the point if you have to pay the same price as the stores (or more) plus the shipping and most frustrating to me, is if they can't even get it to me on time.

Kinda odd that I can walk into Best Buy the minute they open on the day a CD is released and they have it yet these pre-sales can't get you a CD at least on the day of release.

Having ordered the cd and shirt so long ago, I wore a 2X shirt at that time. I have since lost 52 lbs(actually around 40 since I ordered) and I'm doing good to wear an XL now! The shirt is like a tent on me!

That is not something to be sad about. Congrats to you on taking off the weight. I know how difficult it is and am trying to do it myself. Keep the shirt as a reminder of a size you don't want to return to.

Great band....probably lots of wonderful, well meaning people
working for them.....but my Govt Mule experience with pre-orders
has been awful.

I didn't even allow myself to be tempted by pre-order availability for
"By a Thread". Instead I went down to Newbury Comics on Tuesday
bought it for $9.99...no problem....no endless excuses...no blood pressure problems.
