Does anyone else go through this, and is it rude, or is it just me?

Awhile back someone responded to a B&P I offered, but never sent me the blanks, so the show is still sitting here. Then the other day I left my list, and the person picked two 1 disc shows from me. I don't know about all of you, but I wouldn't have the nerve to pick two shows, when the thread is take 1 leave 1 to begin with. I left my list in another thread, the guy posted, but never got ahold of me by way of PM, so until I hear from that person, oh well. Just wondered what everyone thought about this. If I respond to a B&P, I try to have the common decentcy(sp) to send them a PM.

Thanks,...Neil

Neil you're totally right about sending a PM when responding to a B&P that is just common curtousy. As far as not sending the original discs, maybe that person just forgot. we all have a lot of things going on and sometimes things slip through the cracks or maybe the guy is just an A-hole

my 2 cents.....

Neil. I had people not send discs before. The first couple times I posted here and on GB. It took forever to hear from him. The last time I just said the heck with ya, Still have not heard from him. I understand we can forget stuff but follow up.

I also have a couple of questions about some bnp offers.

example Take one leave one offers.
If I take one show and then leave a show, I would IMMEDIATLY pm the person who's show i took.
This pm would include my address for mailing
A few times now i have not got a response back

Can I assume the show is going to be mailed?
Should the person who I took the show from pm me back?

It seems the average for me is 9 out of 10 send blanks on BnPs I offer.

I will pack up my blanks as soon as I respond unless I'm at work.
Also I PM or email when I receive shows from people.
It's just simple courtesy, that shouldn't be too hard if your Momma raised you right

This is a thread that seems to reappear in some form every couple of months

I confess that I'm terrible for this. Periodically I will respond to a B&P offer, get the person's address, then forget to send the pack off . . . sometimes the person will remind me, and we'll get things straight, other times it's just forgotten.

So, if anybody out there is waiting on discs from me, I apologize.

Personally, I've never thought it was that big of a deal. Most of the time when I do a B&P of say, 5 or more, I'll get one less pack then I'm expecting, i.e., someone claimed a spot, but never sent a pack. If they don't want the tunes, no problem. However, if you set up a trade, where someone is expecting something from you, or if you're buring for someone, and they've sent you their discs, then that is a big deal you have to follow through. Just my opinion.

It is rude to not respond. I don't mind people being "slow", but I still have a few people who haven't gotten back to me about the summer shows I've recorded. But I already sent the discs I burned for them in trades. I will reburn if they ever contact me. - I have very often sent discs out to people who don't trade and gotten nothing in return, but at the same time, others have sent me more than I deserve. I certainly don't mind using the cd's, since they're so cheap. And when I'm already at the PO sending tons of stuff, what's a couple extra bucks here and there...

Alot of the shows I offer, I tell folks that i'm pre-burning them, so when their blanks get to me, I send them out the same day, so if they don't send blanks, I have copies just sitting here. It's no big deal, because I usually turn around and send them to someone else as a freebie, but it gets annoying sometimes. When I respond to a B&P or trade, I jump on it right away. What's the sense in responding if you're gonna wait a month. If you're not gonna follow through, then don't get in on the offer. Pretty simple stuff. Anyway, didn't mean to make a big deal out of such a trivial thing.

Peace,....Neil

Sounds like this happens to everyone who offers up B&Ps (it has happened to me as well). I think the rude part about responding to a b&p then not sending the discs is that there may have been someone else who wanted to respond but the b&p was filled.

There was a thread recently in the trades forum about this. It has happened to me quite often that people take a B&P and then don't send a package. It really don't care other than someone who might have have wanted the show could have taken the spot. I guess what is worse to me is when a package comes straggling in a month or more later after I have wiped it from the hard drive. I also have left shows sitting on my drive waiting for a package to come before I removed it....grrrrrrr

and Neil...rudeness is not trivial.

Ive been asking people to send their B & P packages within a few days of the offer.
I have a small hard drive and can only leave a couple shows on there at a time. People have been pretty good about it.

As far as the take one leave one threads, I dont take and leave unless I can mail within 2 or 3 days max. If Im too busy then I dont participate until I have the time.

How long is too long for a T1 L1 before you send a reminder 2 weeks? 3 weeks?
I dont even mind so much waiting 2 or 3 weeks for a show I pick up on a T1 L1 but I dont like it when there is no communication. I send a pm with my address and then dont hear anything back and end up having to send a reminder.

Neil, you're not alone in either issue. About once a month or so, someone finds our trade list and asks for half of it or better. They'll just pop those thirty or fourty discs in the mail RIGHT NOW, if that's okay! The "no-send" is just as bad, you load up your show in your computer and WAIT. The multiple-show thing just takes a firm hand: "No. These are the rules. Please abide by them or ask someone else." They may try a "Bad Trader" post, but the people around you know who you are... and are not. They'll speak up.
The waiting thing is easily solved. Tina and I came up with a form letter that says the following (copy it if you like):

Hi!
For b&p for x/x/xx show please send x discs to me at:

Tina Lake
XXXXXXXXXXXX
Paola, KS 66071

Please no jewel cases (they break in the mail & add extra postage).
Send your discs in a bubble return mailer with your address and return
postage already applied. Then place that return mailer inside a regular
big envelope and mail to me. (Just makes it easier for me if I don't
have to do any extra work playing with peoples envelopes - thanks).
Also please include a note or the original email stating what show you
are getting so I don't send you the wrong thing on accident. When your
discs arrive I will email and let you know they're here and when I'll be
sending them back out to you.

Special note: YOU HAVE 2 WEEKS TO GET THE DISCS IN MY HANDS. After 2
weeks your email requesting the show gets dumped and the show doesn't
get burned. Sorry if it sounds harsh but after doing these for awhile
there are a lot of people that forget and I don't want to chase everyone
down when I am the one doing the burning here.

For more info on B&Ps go to: http://www.mcnichol.com/bnp/

Thanks, email me if you have any questions.

peaches,
Tina and Cliff

I don't think it's trivial either Neil. After all, you don't have to do BnPs, we all have lives and if someone is willing to take the time to share the music, people can make an effort to be decent about it.
I've notcied some people put time limits on their offers. I think this is a great idea, fair for everyone. Give a date that the package should be postmarked by and stick to it, that should get the slow pokes moving or thinking twice before taking a spot. I sure hate waiting for the straglers. I'm pretty sure I forgot to send discs out for a BnP a while back and I feel bad, but I can't remember who offered it or what show!
(Oldtimer's disease?) Since then, I don't sign up for a BnP unless I'm at my computer with all the discs, mailers, etc. close by and I pack them up right away. I'm waiting 3 weeks now for one, and 2 months for another, and both parties approached me for these BnPs. (not from this forum) I really have no complaints about the folks here.

I have got to say that the folks on the ABB and Dickey sites are excellent to trade with, or do b and p's for. Once in awhile, there is an "issue" but it is truly fun and a pleasure to distribute music on ABB and family sites.

Neil, you are right. It is not respectful not to respond, or to take/request more than what is offered. A firm but polite response to that individual should work.

Neil, your good nature should be respected, not taken advantage of!!

Cliff, NYCBarb, Jonesey & Everyone else,...Thanks for your time and advice, and I too love sharing what others have shared with me. It's truly become a habit, but one of my good habits. I recently responded to a B&P from someone, and they said they got my blanks to them in record time. If I get in on an offer, I get the blanks in the mail within 24 hours, unless of course it's the weekend, and I sometimes still get them in the mail. I have a real hard time saying NO to someone, so maybe people see i'm a sucker, haha. Anyway, thanks folks, appreciate your help on this.

Peace,...Neil

I totally agree. I dont think i have ever offered a BnP other than the Hotlanta show where i recieved discs from everyone. This is not only annoying, but not fair to other folks who may have wanted the show, are willing to send discs, but didnt get in. ( although if they contact me shortly after, i usually let them in anyway) . I never sign up for a BnP if I know I cannot get the discs out within 2 days. I am giving serious consideration of putting a time limit on my BnP's. If they arent postmarked by a certian date, they get sent back blank. What are everyone's thoughts on that??? I know I have seen it done many times over in the Philzone, maybe once or twice here. Can someone here stick up for the hard drive challenged?

Well I just wanna thank those of you have offered Bnps and allowed me the time to get the discs down to you from here in the frozen north. The mail can easily take a week from Canada. I've only once responded to an offer and been stood up but that guy has since left us when his vine got tangled. If your hard drive is too small or too full could you burn the copies in advance trusting the discs will arrive. Any of those pre-burns that don't get sent out for some reason could then go out in one of the box of loose ends offers i've seen on this site. At least it frees up the hard drive. Thanx again for your help and spreading the music we all enjoy !

Of course, I understand the situation of packages

Actually, the few I have had dealings with have been very prompt, more so than the ones "in country"

Oldblue,...I totally understand and give consideration to all our out of country brothers and sisters. I just think that waiting around for a month is a little long, especially when they're in the same country. Didn't mean to open a can of worms on this matter, was just thinking out loud I guess.

Peace,...Neil

Neil, i with you brother. that's the main reason i don't trade over at the philzone anymore. i took a show, left my list and get a message saying that they next person wanted 3 of my shows (7 disks total!)! I was like, "Dude, this is a take ONE leave ONE, right?" and he went on telling me all about how it was standard practice....etc....i knew i was getting bullshi!!ed....so i just filled his order and moved on but won't leave anything over at philzone again.

Since it was supposed to be "Standard practice" i once took two shows from a take one leave one here someplace. (two one disk shows though). i felt bad doing it though and havent done it since.

Vine boy cracks me up all the time...perhaps he has swung away...

and with regard to people taking up the B&P spots but never getting the packages.....that happens to me all the time....and then three months from now i get a package for some show i offered last month...that's a real bitch!

or, have you ever had it where you get more envelopes than you recall accepting? for a recent show i know for sure i would up with about 5 extra b&p's that i didnt offer up. i filled them out of the kindness of my heart, but i'm tired of being Mrs. Nice Guy.

and furthermore, if someone doesnt include postage what do you guys do? i feel like i'm stealing their disks if i don't send them back.
