As a few of you folks know, I recently started a new day job on my down time working @ a local independent record store. It's been a really neat gig so far with a lot reallly cool perks. Well, one of those cool perks happend today! Since, I handle most of the store's music orders, I got the priviledge of opening a package of new merchandise this afternoon that contained a handfull of copies of Gov't Mule's new album, "By A Thread." I couldn't resist opening one up & popping it immediately into the store's player...lol. I must say that I am impressed with this freaking cd. It may be there best studio album since "Life Before Insanity." And, I can honestly say that just after a few listens....it's definitely my favorite since the good ol' days with Woody. Congrats to the band for making this record...it brings the heat!!!

Listening to it on Napster right now. Tell me that's not Billy Gibbons playing on the first track.

OK, I broke down and hit Loony Tunes and picked up my copy of 'By A Thread' and will give it an initial listen later tonight. The guy behind the counter wasn't very happy that I found out about this on a message board. LOL!!! He said they got in trouble for the same thing when they were selling the last Pearl Jam CD before it was supposed to go on sale.

I also finally picked up the most recent Black Crowes CD 'Before The Frost' and am looking forward to that as well. Nice rainy night for listening to some new music!!!!!

Big thanks to sealevel for tipping me off!!!

...Until the Freeze ain't bad either. I picked up the album and the two CDs are 'inter-mixed' in a more traditional way vs. just the electric (Frost)/acoustic (Freeze) CD format....and it makes a HUGE difference - I would highly recommend grabbing it on Vinyl if possible.

anyone know if the new Mule will be available on vinyl and where?
I have not seen it for sale yet, and they usually release a limit quantity on vinyl??
Thanks! Peace, BB

I bought it on both cd & vinyl...I like the sound of the vinyl better...as always.

After two listens I think 'By A Thread' freakin' rocks!!!!!!!! Very happy with this recording. So far tracks 2(Steppin' Lightly') and 6(Any Open Window) and 9(Inside/Outside Woman Blues #3) stand out to me but I love the whole thing from beginning to end. Can't wait to hear these songs live.

I also listened to 'Before The Frost' once and loved that as well. Didn't care for track # 5(I Ain't Hiding) which sounded to me like a cross between Blondie and KISS from their disco phase. I love the rest of it though. I didn't download 'Until The Freeze' yet. That will have to wait for the morning.

I just finished listening to it once, and I think its just ok. Some good tunes on it, not many to my ears however. I like Broken down on the Brazos, Any Open Window, and maybe one or two more. Probably will not buy it, as I heard it from the Mule Army stream.
To my ears Warren's solos are pretty predictable in that they are alot like his live Mule solos and I am getting a bit bored with his tone and overall guitar sound. I was looking for some more creativity from the Mule, and this does not do it for me.

Love the new Cd. Three tunes that I can not get out my head are Broke Down On The Brazos, Inside Outside Woman Blues #3 and Scenes of A Troubled Mind.
