This guy blew me away. The ABB and Mule haven't been quite the same without him, IMO.

He might very well be the most underrated member of the ABB EVER! Neither Mule nor the ABB has been the same without him, and that's no insult to the current line ups---it's just a tribute to Woody.

I will always remember when my brother and I showed up to an early Mule show when there were only two or three other fans there. They still played for two hours and Woody blew us away. We chanted his name as he left the stage and he gave us a wink. What a true talent.

Honestly, I still miss this guy.

The more I listen to and find out about Allen, the more I'm impressed with him. He had a great style and just WENT FOR IT every time. His passing was way too soon.

Allen definitely earned his car as part of The Freight Train.

those early Govt. Mule shows were completely out of control. some of the best shows i have ever seen, and yes sometimes there were about 10-15 people there.

i saw the next to last Govt. Mule show ( with Allen Woody ) on 8/16/00 at The Trade Winds in Sea Bright, N. J. and it was incredible ( and have a great copy of it ). the next night they didn't play there scheduled show. so i went out to dinner at a great italian restaurant on the Jersey Shore that next night on 8/17/00 with my mom and dad. as i am walking into that restaurant i look over at a table and it's Allen and a friend having dinner. i walk over and say hello and tell Allen how great the show was the night before, he said thanks and i went into the restaurant. about 45 minutes later Allen walks over to were we were sitting at the bar waiting for a table, and proceeds to talk to me and my mom for about 20 minutes. i bought him a Molson Ice and he could'nt have been any nicer, it was just great, touched on all kind of musical subjects including Frank Zappa ( i asked because The Mule had played Pygmy Twylyte the night before, and i am a big Frank fan ) and it turns out Allen was a big Zappa fan to. what a conversation, will never forget it. after he left, my mom said who was that a good friend, i said not really, but it felt as if we had know each other for years. thank you Allen for just being such a nice human being and a amazing bass player. i was stunned and saddened that 9 days later to find out that Allen had died. he is sorely missed.

RIP my brother.

During the Fox run, I was talking to Jaimoe outside the Georgian Terrace, where he spent over an hour talking to fans (what a great guy and what a BIZARRE sense of humor!). There was an older gentleman standing next to him and Jaimoe turned to me and said, "Do you know who this man is? This is Allen Woody's father." I was speechless. All I could get out was "Mr. Woody, your son was much loved and is greatly missed by everybody" or something like that. He thanked me and the look in his eyes said it all. He loved his son very much and the pain was still very close to the surface.

RIP Woody. What a MASSIVE bottom end that guy had....

I'm glad so many dig new Mule. I still see them whenever they play nearby. But the chemistry of the original trio was something so special. I can't help but feel that, while what we still have is great, it doesn't even compare. I'm so happy to have seen Woody-era Mule in bars and biker festivals. The most powerful musical experiences of my young adult life.

I absolutely LOVE the current lineup of The ABB. I guess I would feel the same toward this band if I'd had the chance to experience the Duane/Dickey/Berry lineup live.

Here is one of my favorite Mule Army threads, please feel free to add your own "Woodyisms"

When i first started seeing the Mule, i picked up on the "woodyisms" right away. Would stand there in the crowd waiting for the next woodyism (though at the time i didn't know there was a name for them!!), then giggle. So i just thought that i would copy and paste some woodyisms from another website, because they are fun to read from time to time. Miss ya, Woody!!

Current bassist Jorgen Carlsson brings the Thunder very much like Woody did...I'm not saying he's "as good as" but,he's about as close as anyone could get,IMO.....I think w/Jorgen The Mule has it's strongest line-up since the Woody days...If you've seen them live lately or heard the boot's,you know where i'm coming from....Jorgen blows me away...The guy's a Monster !!

love those old Mule shows - too bad I didn't see them live.

Someone recently posted a vid of Blue Sky from the early days of the Warren / Woody era. Yea, Dickey and Warren had nice solos, but Woody just blew me away.

agree with Hugh - Jorgen returns some of that Woody flavor back to the Mule.

RIP

(great post, biotdl - seen it before at MuleArmy but it is worth seeing on a daily basis)
