Hi. I'm new to the board but I've been an ABB fan since the mid 1970's when I wouldn't go anywhere without my two-LP pink labled Capricorn copy of FILLMORE EAST. The bands release of HITTIN' THE NOTE has rekindled my love for the band and my desire to seek out as many live recordings of the band, particularly the original line-up, as I can. I was very happy indeed to recently receive my copy of the ATLANTA-INTERNATIONAL POP FESTIVAL CD. I just hope that more such recordings are on the way and not only in CD form but as well as DVD as there must be some footage of the original line-up in concert somewhere! Anyway, long introduction aside, I was just wondering what everyones all-time favorite ABB song is and which version of it is currently the ultimate for you?

My favorite song has always been DREAMS. It's such a surreal and dreamy song if that makes any sense at all and everything just seems perfect about it. The ultimate version for me at the moment is the one from LIVE AT LUDLOW GARAGE - 1970. While the sound of the recording leaves a little to be desired every now and then, it's just a beautiful version that sounds about as perfect as a live recording can get. There doesn't seem to be a wasted note anywhere and Duane's concluding 30 seconds or so of his solo is absolutely mesmerizing. Well, thanks very much for listening and reading.

Welcome Bill! I think you'll enjoy this place. If you like the Atlanta CD, click on the link to your left to get to Kid Glove Enterprises. There are two other archival releases featuring the original band that I'm sure you'll like. You can order them from that website.

My favorite song is also Dreams. Hard to pick out my favorite version. Frankly, I've never heard one I didn't like.

Whipping Post. Or WHIPPING POST! FE....unless it is MJ from EAP, or Liz Reed from FE, or maybe YDLM from FE...or Dreams from 9.19.71.... one of those, for sure...

Mountain Jam from EAP. The greatest song ever written - with the exception of "How High The Mountain", sung by the Ronnie Dobbs in his autobiographical musical.

Thanks for the welcome and kind words guys, I appreciate it.

Lee - Thanks for the tip on Kid Glove Enterprises. I immediately went there and filled out all my info and was ready to order the STONY BROOK CD but unfortunately the site doesn't take American Express. Do you know of any other sites that sell that CD because I'd really love to have it. Thanks.

"Kid Glove doesn't take American Express". Maybe we can get them in a Visa commercial.

I think you have to get them from that site. Unless you want to wait until next year, then you can prolly pick both up at an ABB concert. Maybe you can send them a check.

Love all the studio versions of Dickey's instrumentals, especially Jessica. Best live Jessica that I've witnessed was DB&GS at Stephen Talkhouse 7/13/03, too bad it wasn't taped. That one really stands out! Also FE Liz Reed, most of the live versions of Desdemona are darn good too. Black Hearted Woman on the Beacon DVD is also a favorite...shall I continue? There are many more. I could never pick one!

It's all good ya know? The Brothers are better on a bad night than most bands are on a good night. We just get spoiled by the magic moments..

Of course, Liz Reed from Fillmore East...

That being said, I downloaded a version of "Don't Keep Me Wonderin" sometime back that is fantastic. Actually I wasn't sure what I was downloading because the guy I got it from had it titled "Holy Sh!t Duane". Now I'm not sure when it was recorded. I have a version that is supposed to be from the Fillmore East CD, but this one is different AND better. Duane is absolutely smoking.

I'm wondering if this isn't the actual FE version and the other is mistitled. On the one I have supposedly from FE it has Duane talking to the audience after the end of the song, talking about the crowd being quiet.

Which version is which?

Jessica, from versions played live in 94-96. Great tune, and excellent for letting the band jam out in the most melodic sense
