Their albums are timeless, of course. But will the road really go on forever for this band or will they eventually hang it up? If so, when will that happen? Or will D Trucks and Warren carry on after the originals bow out??

Well, they have given so much. We can't expect them to do so forever.

Sistah, maybe I'm only hopeful here, but I can only imagine that Gregory will bow out when they put him in the ground.......

Various members of the band in different interviews over the past year have already said (or implied) that this, their 40th anniversary year, will be the last one where they embark upon a nationwide tour. From next year onwards, Derek and Warren will be spending more time on their own band projects, and the ABB will probably only do an annual "Beacon" style residency, so that the fans go to them rather than the band going to the fans.

As implied by Cherry, I think Gregg loves his music so much that he will continue to do minor tours with his solo band, maybe a few of the ABB might sit in with him from time to time, who knows?

I predict that Gregg will leave this world playing on a stage at the age of 90.
I am his age and I hope to be there with him .

Jaimo's Jazzy Band is wonderful and I hope they go on forwever

The Abb will have annual reunions in NYC for a month every year.

That's what my crystal ball says.

And we'll have the second generation: Duane Betts, Berry Oakley Jr.,
Devon Alloman, Michael Allman, Layla Allman and more.

Derek has stated in a number of interviews he is leaving the ABB. It appears he also wants to disband his own group and form a band with Susan. He wants to play with Doyle Bramhall. And he wants to spend a lot of time with his children and in his home studio. I can see him guesting at the Beacon but not as a full time member of the band. Committing to what is essentially a 5 week project defeats the purpose of leaving the band in the first place.

The rest of the band will likely continue on with a new guitarist and play New York and a small tour in the summer.

Even if they played only a limited number of shows I would hate to see them start replacing someone like Derek or Warren just to be playing under the ABB banner and go out on the road, but I don't see that happening. They know their legacy and won't damage it. Anyone think they'll pull out something special for the last show this year?

Lefty - I envy you! Just wish this wasn't a school night, or I'd be up there with ya!

Please don't take this the wrong way (I guess if ya did, it would make for a great conversation!) - I think it would probably be in Derek's best interest to leave the Allman Brother's Band. There's no doubt that the ABB is still a viable band (best act on the road!) - but Derek should concentrate on his own music soon - lest he become accused of being a member of a nostalgic act.

I agree with others - the music will never die!

Really? I haven't seen this.

You haven't seen it because he hasn't said it. He's said he wants to spend more time at home and not constantly be on tour, as he has been the last couple of years, but he's never said he is leaving the ABB. The ABB doesn't tour that much as it is, and in the future they'll be touring less, so that frees up some of his time already.

Nevermind that few people would say that because he plays a couple dozen dates with the Allmans - who would care?

That is because he hasn't said it. Funny how these things start and grow. It has gone from a rumor to there being "a number" of interviews. Actually Derek (and others) have stated that the touring with the ABB will be scaled back. There will even be more shows than some are thinking. Both Warren and Derek recently said that there will be a Beacon type stand plus a limited number of summer shows. Which is pretty close to what they have done for years. This year being the exception where they played longer into the season and more shows.

The statements are of the kind that I owe it to Susan to spend more time at home so she can work on her career. He's let that one out a few times as he has the Doyle comment. He wants to start a family style band with Susan similar to what Joe Cocker did and he wants to work with Doyle in that band.

I admit what they have been saying is deliberately vague but I haven't picked up that they are simply scaling back the ABB or eevn that they have found another New York venue.

Derek has a working wife, his own career and his children. The ABB has to be down on the list of his priorities by now.

I can see why people want him to stay in the ABB. I just doubt it's in the cards.

I stopped trying to figure out where this band was going a long time ago.

I thought 1989-1990 was a one shot deal. WRONG

I missed the last beacon show in 92 and thought they wouldn't be around much longer and was bummed. WRONG.

93. A couple of shows without Dickey. Thought it could be the end. WRONG. They come back swinging in 94 !

97. " They can't replace Warren and Woody " WRONG.

99. Derek's too young to replace Jack....... WRONG.

00. Hated the sound on Peakin at the Beacon and thought it was total insanity to not have Dickey in the band......THEY'RE DONE. Wrong. Saw them at One For Woody at Roseland and was blown away by the sound they had going in that room. I'm back.

Beacon 2001.... " I'll go just because it's the beacon but I doubt the fire is there.. " Wrong.

2009 - . I'll go to Jones Beach. Doubt it will compare to the Beacon. WRONG. I loved that show and they did not appear to be band that was ready to pack it in.

Whatever happens, I'll be there to check it out.

I haven't seen him saying that either. He's talked about starting a band with her, yes.

Just about everyone in the band has said they are not going to tour as much in the future.

Butch said they are looking at potential venues. I wouldn't expect one to be confirmed for a few months yet, if they are planning to be here at the same time as years past.

No kidding. It was never his top priority or his main musical outlet, but I haven't seen him say what you are stating. He may decide to leave; I have no idea what his plans are. But he hasn't made that clear.

My personal opinion is that there will be an Allman Brothers Band as long as everybody's health holds out. When you consider Jaimoe's back, Butch's knee, Gregg's hep C and hernias, Warren's eye and other problems.....I think you see a pretty tough bunch. Touring has to be grueling to men in their 60's, they must really love what they do. And I believe they will continue as long as they are able. And as long as it's fun.

In the meantime, enjoy the moment, enjoy what you have. Nothing to be gained by fretting about "what if's" and things you can't control.

Nowhere in there does it say he is leaving the ABB. He has said that there will be more time for other things with the ABB scaling back.

I think some may not realize the difference in pay for these guys. Big payday for a month or two a year.

There are plenty of interviews where they all say that they will be playing together still.
