This has probably been asked before - just curious what some of us do for recreation or competition with their free time. I have been a long time raquet sport player and also an even longer frisbee lover. I live in the northeast and I am just about to start the platform tennis league season here - we play from Oct. - March outside - this is a great fun fast paced game very similar to tennis, but played in a much smaller court which is fenced in and the ball can be played off the fences.

www.paddlepro.com if interested in checking it out or
www.platformtennis.org

My other obsession is disc golf - a game I played way back in the late 70's and lost touch with it, then found it again 4 years ago or so - and the game is way different - mainly the discs you play with - much different than the 165g ultimate frisbee I always threw - though I love to just throw the frisbee still - I even have a light up frisbee for after dark tosses. Anyway, disc golf is played basically the same as golf, you just have to drive and upshoot then putt a disc into a basket - maybe the best game ever.

What are you all into???

I was a big Tennis player. Had back surgery 6 years ago; played three more years till i re-injured myself. Now I swim - absolutely hate it but i figure if it took several million years for man to walk upright I should keep it going for another 30

Does strolling around the neighborhood and walking my dogs count as a sport?..........Peace..............joe

P.S. I count Bowling as an activity, not a sport. I did it for 5 yrs., got so sick of it, I don't care if I never roll another bowling ball again

When I was growing up we did about everything. Basketball, baseball, football, tennis, golf.

For me the ones that stuck were basketball, tennis and golf.

Love to play ping pong, too. When we were kids we used to have some marathon Ping Pong tournaments down in the basement in the winter.

Back in the days of my youth ........ Basketball ( until I blew out my knee in 1976 at the ripe old age of 17 ) Hockey ( Roller & Ice ) and played Fast Pitch Softball into my late 30's until there was no one my age left playing and it got annoying playing with all these young "kids" ..........Took up skiing at 27 and haven't looked back. It fills my competitive streak and the best part is that you don't NEED anyone to play because it's all about you Vs. the mountain. I cross train for skiing in the summer by bike riding & roller blading as much as possible to keep myself in something approaching decent shape for the winter ski season.

Remember the good old days of football and baseball, as when some player makes a long run, great catch or nails somebodys noggin , then heads to the sidelines or dug out and lights up a smoke ?

I play Ultimate Frisbee. Have been for 25 years. Only play city league these days, no more weekend tournaments and traveling and such. I'm usually playing with folks who weren't born when I started playing, but there are still a few of us from back in the day who still play. Greatest sport ever!

Most stuff that's been mentioned -- like you dkstr40 I love throwing the frisbee, not into the "golf" or "ultimate" & all that -- play tennis every Mon. evening (& was on it yesterday! -- played Well) -- ping pong has been an addiction before -- nowadays it's mostly mtn. biking, skating (roller blading), & skiing in the winter (it snowed in northern Vt. this morning) -- really dig the outdoors -- hiking/climbing also
