My son is considering doing the foreign exchange thing after he graduates from high school.

For starters I had no idea you could do this after high school, but you can. He wants to go to Spain as he is and has taken a lot of spanish language courses and really wants to immerse.

Anyone have any first hand knowledge of this whole thing?

The program here is run by The Rotary Club and seems to be well organized.

For the record, I am all for it and will back him all the way on this.

His current plan (I know a teenager with a plan.....) is to do this for a year, then come back and enroll in college.

I knew he would need a passport, but I am also hearing he needs some sort of student visa too....any thoughts ?

Whatever you have to add would be appreciated....

Go for it. Perfect time.

My daughter spent a semester in Chile, lived with a non-english speaking host family, all of her classes were in spanish. Traveled with other students to Argentina, Peru, Lake District and other parts of Chile. Really came back with an true understanding of the language, history and culture. My son, now a freshman at the university of Colorado, has lived with billet families in Canada and briefly in Sweden while playing hockey. We have hosted Korean and British exchange students a few years ago. All worthwhile experiences.
