Found this today at the Les Paul Forum , looks like about 1970-71 to me. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to location and who the 7th. man on stage is ? Looks a little cramped eh?

Looks like they're in Greece.

That is a tiny stage. The other guy isn't playing anything. Maybe that is the only place he had to stand.

The banner says "Collegii Muskingumensis - Novae Concordiae - Sigillum" - if you google that, you find one result, a company that sells pottery, and you can get a mug with that same message on it. That gets me nowhere. The pottery is called Hull, and there is a Hull University in England, but were the ABB in England with Duane?

The seal above the stage is that of Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio.

I got that far, then Googled universities founded in 1837. That took a while!

This is what Duane and these guys did. This is how they made known the new kind of music they created. There weren't that many clubs in those days, especially in the deep south. So much of the area was "dry." So Duane and his band took to the road, playing high school and college gyms, national guard armories, parks. He coulda' stayed in California, done things Liberty's way, coulda' stayed in the studio, helping make stars of others, laying back, getting regular checks. This is the path he chose. The band and the roadies made it happen. Nothing was given to them, there was no luck involved.

Look at the banner behind the band. The latin (or possibly greek) phrases.

I googled the words and was first lead to a Hull College in the U.K. A site was selling a coffee mug with the exact wording on the banner.

Hull College Mug
Hull Ovenproof House n Garden Mirror Brown 3 1/2" mug has applied goldtone emblem reading "Collegii Muskingumensis - Novae Concordiae - Sigillum - Omni Tirium Perfectum - 1837"

However, since the original lineup didn't tour outside the U.S., further searches find a "James M. Hull College of Business" of the Augusta State University in Augusta, Georgia. That business school originally became an official branch of ASU in 1972. Obviously, Duane was gone by then.

It's possible that the concert could have been there prior to the business school becoming an official separately named entity.

May not have anything to do with it at all, but, tracking it to Augusta, GA makes one wonder if that isn't a solid connection.

The motto of Muskingum University is "Omne Trinum Perfectum," which is in the triangle of that seal.

Then, of course, we have the word "Muskingumensis."

The Latin suffix "sis" is frequently used to describe the name of a university on a seal.

Looks like New Concord is about exactly halfway between Columbus and Pittsburgh on I-70.

Interesting.....very interesting.

I need to check around with some of my older friends who live in the area. It is plausible since Augusta is two hours away from Macon....

The set list database says they played two shows in Dayton in February 1970, that's also off I-70...

A lot of compelling info that it could be in Ohio.
