Last night he was on the air for the 1st time since last weeks admission of indiscretions.

He joked about it during his monolog. Example: "It was chilly outside my house yesterday, and chilly INSIDE my yesterday!" Yuk yuk yuk

You know....joking about it on national TV just doesnt seem to me to be the *wisest* way of handling this problem.

To his credit, he didn't run from it.

Most celebrities seem to deny it, then when it comes out they look worse.

Look at any baseball player who denied steroids and then it came out that they used them, then look at Andy Pettitte who admitted to it, nobody bothers him.

The guy owned up, and it is the elephant in the room, he's gotta joke about it just as everyone else is joking about it.

He'd joke about it if it were somebody else, at least he's not a hypocrite.

He is a comedian.. so he makes a joke of almost everything... IMO... I think he did the right thing.. better to fess up and not lie.. Lying is bad... you always have to remember what story you weaved.. when it's the truth there is no thinking involved.. it is what it is..
On his personal problems that have now developed from this coming out... Well, it is personal and he and his wife and all parties involved will have to deal with that.. but I guess once you are an entertainer and famous .. all is out there... you have to take your licks and nothing is really private.

Better to say the truth .. and not let someone blackmail you.. forever....

Exactly.....And in regard to his wife, has anyone considered the fact that while I'm sure she wanted all this to remain private, she may very well have given Dave permission to fool around the entire time they've been together. It's certainly not unheard of as many married couples have "open" marriages. I suspect not necessarily with co-workers, but sex outside the marriage is not an unusual arrangement.

I agree with most of y'all. I have a hell of a lot more respect for the way Letterman handled this than all the phony crying, lying, and ducking you usually see.

That's one of the dirty little secrets in our society. If every married person who has cheated was exposed on TV, there would be more freaking out than this country could handle.

I think it is normal for humans to lust after other humans, whether they are married or not. The act is what brings down the house.

First, from what I've read I gather this all transpired before his son was born. He and his wife were together but unwed at the time.

Second, I admire what Letterman did....when you're on the end of a blackmail threat the only way you can diffuse it is to own your actions. He did. And as was said, since he's joked about other people's problems, no way he could not make jokes about his own. I guarantee you, it's not easy for him and he's not laughing at home.

That 2 million would have been alot cheaper than what he'll end up paying his wife.

I don't know about that. They've only been married since March. Her only argument right now is "he dated other women while we were dating." That ain't enough, in fact it's nothing.

..but they lived together for umpteen years and have a child.
If this ends up in a divorce, she'll get plenty-ola.
Hope it doesn't.

Letterman owned up to what he did. You don't see that often. Take David Vitter, for example. Or Larry Craig. Or Ted Haggart.
