i bought the new skynyrd cd today and it sounds great to me. i'm glad they are still playing. the songs have great messages in them. i think ronnie would be proud that they are still playing, especially with all the loss this band has suffered through.now we need the brothers to get it in gear and give us some new music.

not in any way and it doesnt suggest to go out and buy a gun and
start shootin' people. i think this is the best cd they have
released since ronnie died.

what does it refer to, freebird 1975? Just a general call to American values or...? I'd be curious to hear the disc now. Is there a particular person driving the band? Rickey M? He sure seems to have a lot of fire -

Interestingly enough, there was a book out last year called "Ain't My America." I wonder is Skynyrd references it:
"Conservatives love war, empire, and the military-industrial complex. They abhor peace, the sole and rightful property of liberals. Right? Wrong.
According to Bill Kauffman, true conservatives have always resisted the imperial and military impulse: it drains the treasury, curtails domestic liberties, breaks down families, and vulgarizes culture. From the Federalists who opposed the War of 1812, to the striving of Robert Taft (known as "Mr. Republican") to keep the United States out of Korea, to the latter-day libertarian critics of the Iraq war, there has historically been nothing unusual about anti-war activists on the political right. And while these critics of U.S. military crusades have been vilified by the party of George W. Bush, their conservative vision of a peaceful, decentralized, and noninterventionist America gives us a glimpse of the country we could have had—and might yet attain. Passionate and witty, Ain't My America is an eye-opening exploration of the forgotten history of right-wing peace movements—and a clarion call to anti-war conservatives of today."

Just curious. You are glad...WHO is STILL playing?...Lynyrd Skynyrd as we all knew it has been gone for an awfully long time.

You really think RVZ would be happy that Gary Rossington has surrounded himself with a bunch of hacks that are riding the gravy train?

Sorry brother, but this is NOT Lynyrd Skynyrd. But I am truly happy that you dig this stuff.

I'm with BIGV on this one . You may own them all already , but if not , go out and buy Pronounced Lynyrd Skynrd , Second Helping , Street Survivors .... you get the picture . Don't encourage this sham of an act to keep making records under the Skynyrd moniker by purchasing this stuff . God & Guns ? Sounds to me like Charlie Daniels had something to do with the title of this "effort" .

Ricky Medlocke was interviewed on a local radio station a week after Hughie died and never even mentioned him. That’s all I need to know.

i saw skynyrd back in jax park in 1971 , before they even had an album out.i grew up
20 miles from where they come from.if you dont like them then thats your call but to
blast them for what they are doing is just childish. i met ronnie and the band and hung out with them a few times

They were one of my favorites as well. I thought they did the right thing after the crash. They publicly stated that in honor of Ronnie and the others, the band known as Lynyrd Skynyrd was finished. They decided to reform as the Rossington Collins band. They went on their own merit with all original songs. In concert, the only Skynyrd song they played was Freebird, and again out of respect, played it as an instrumental only.

What ever happened to these honorable pledges they made?

Excellent!!!
Lynyrd Skynyrd is one band that, like the ABB, Marshall Tucker, and others, continues to carry their banner and play their asses off in every show. Is it like 1973? No. Neither are the 'Bros like 1971....but these guys rock and they are putting out 'new' material that
makes sense and sounds great. This is a really great record...get it.

Skynyrd was one of my all time favorite bands and it's been painful to me to hear what the've become the last few years. I hope this record marks a return to the band that I knew and loved. All the elitists and musical snobs can say whatever they want to, but LS was a band that flat-out kicked ass as far as I'm concerned. I know I'll check out the new recording.

hacks? ricky medlocke was in skynyrd as a drummer when RVZ was still alive and the drummer they've have since the mid 90's (michael cartellone sp?) is better than any drummer they ever had before

The Skynyrd bashing is really not necessary. They're a different band now than they were when RVZ was alive. That's a given. The same could be said for ABB since Duane died, or Dickey left, or whatever, but let's just not even go there. I ascribe to the old saying, "If you can't something nice.....," in regard to music, because it's subjective.

Whatever anyone thinks of the new/cover/fake band they may be at least they are putting out new music. I'll take a listen to see what they have to offer. I'll overlook the name they are playing under. If it rocks it is good. We can all name quite a few bands that carry on when the originals move on or pass on. I'm still loyal to the original ABB but have followed them through many line-ups over the past forty years....not all of which were very good....listen to Brothers of the Road lately. But boy didn't they rebound after that.

I'm listening to it right now streaming at this site:

http://www.lala.com/#album/360569445167084286

I'm about halfway through but wondering if there is any barrelhouse piano on this? Not being critical, but sounds like 38 Special without it.

OK, Southern Ways verse & chorus guitar rif sounds like Sweet Home Alabama, but it DEFINITELY also sounds like a future country radio hit. Bet it becomes one. Overall, definitely a hard rockin modern Nashville sound to the record.

It's amazing how different this band is from even the Tribute lineup of Gary, Ed, Artimus, Leon, Billy + Randall Hall and JVZ.

The 1st tune reminded me of Chain Lightnin' ...only with power chords.
