.can't imagine a band like the ABB not feeling pressure to bring out another album since they are asked constantly I feel gregg still has something he wants to prove to himself and the rest of the world I hope his band or the ABB does bring some "much needed" new songs It seems as though a lot of the "classic "bands these days are going to be working on new albums in 2010 like skynard (released today) the outlaws,zz top, deep purple and many more.If a band goes more than a couple of years without an album people seem to question them I know hittin the note was a joy for the allmans to make I don't understand why one has not been put out with the great musicians this band has,the 2010 NYC run in my opinion we will be introduced to 2-3 new songs .(hopefully)

For me it's a pleasure on the guitar, and pressure when trying to put lyrics to it. And my songs only ever get heard by a handful on people!

When a songwriter's creative juices are flowing I would think it's pleasure and when they are having trouble and running low on ideas I would think it turns somewhat into pressure.

As a songwriter myself, I'd say that it's always a pleasure, but then again I don't HAVE to do it, so I don't feel the pressue. I'm sure this is the same with the ABB these days. They don't HAVE to do it and if they had to, there would've been another album since HITTIN THE NOTE. The reality too is that I'm SURE they have all written songs (yes even Gregg) but that doesn't mean that they have brought them to the band to hear or work on yet... if they will at all.

I know many of us complain that they haven't brought in new songs. And some of us really really would love new material and a new album (me included), but they really don't HAVE to do it. They have no label pressures and as much as we (the hardcore fanbase) seem to get frustrated with it and feel like they're going to lose us all, the reality is the majority of the people who go to their concerts (which is how they are earning their living) don't actually want to hear the new music... unfortunately.

I have a hard time copyiing someone elses guitar work, but of course it is not something I do for a living I feel the lyrics would not be as hard as the inst itself, some would disagree

It was a pleasure when I started out but then I ran out of things I wanted to write about and quit. If I had to do it now it would be pressure. Guess that's why I don't write songs any more.

I'd like to think songwriting is pleasure more than pressure. Things seem to flow better when it's natural as opposed to being a must or writing for spec.

Would be interested in reading Gregg's take on songwriting. Anybody know of any available interviews that go into this topic?

Here's what Steve Morse said to a Birmingham newspaper about Deep Purple making a new record:

"Any news of a new Deep Purple album?

We’re always trying to get started, but these tours keep popping up. Recording is very nearly a volunteer endeavour, and touring pays most of the bills. Despite that, as a group we are committed to doing a new record soon."

The line that most caught my attention was this one:
"Recording is very nearly a volunteer endeavour, and touring pays most of the bills."

I fear that bands like DP and the ABB must sense that sales for their new albums are low, and that often, new songs in concert get the least amount of applause. New songs also get very little airplay.

That being said, what is the pressure on an artist to record a new disc? Some sense of a desire to push oneself, perhaps. But maybe you get to a point where you feel like you HAVE proved yourself, and you are tired of pushing.

It seems to me that you know when your going to write something decent before you start. It's a pregnant feeling I guess.

Not really.....usually that 'pregnant feeling' involves a lot of throwing up, discomfort and pain before you get go the baby.

After I " have the baby" I get depressed. The better the song, the more depressed I get.
I quit writing because of that.

I would think that like anything else, if one likes his profession, then writing music is a pleasure...

If you would have heard any of them, you'd be depressed too .

Does this have anything to do with Yoko's new release ?
