Ok there is a thread on here about the most underrated. So now this one is about the most overrated.
Who you thinking?

Dave Matthews Band

I like U2. Nice to hear about somebody besides the Stones and the Beatles.

AC/DC - Fun band that has played the same song over and over for their entire career. Now radio here plays them to death. Well 5 - 6 songs over and over anyway. Played almost as much as Pink Floyd and Zeppelin. They are like a fad that returns every 7 years or so and each time the legend grows. I would have loved it if they had taken even one risk on one song over their career. For example, Angus loves the blues. Do one blues song or cover for instance. Bot no. Same chords/same solo and some sexual innuendo lyrics being growled. New AC/Dc albums? Who cares because it will be the exact same and the band would be the first to tell you that. I don't blame them for not messing with things but I like a band that takes a risk occasionally otherwise it is just boring.

What's the deal with them ARTIC MONKEYS? They get endless press coverage in British pop magazines. Haven't heard a note of their music.

Any rapper in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame (or being considered): RUN DMC, GRANDMASTER FLASH, LL COOL J, BEASTY BOYS

Certainly understand what you're saying, perhaps an acoustic tune or two without straying too far from the template? However, as with anything, there are other ways to look at this, one being that they have eschewed any trends (imagine AC/DC doing a disco influenced song), trends that had they followed, would surely have been ridiculed later for. You know, the whole:

"returning from the wilderness, the 'lost' period where they followed the then current fad, AC/DC finally RETURN to FORM....."

There's a certain integrity in just doing things your way.....

It's really a no-win, isn't it? Fans, critics, we're a fickle lot....

I agree with the DMB being overrated, however, i have not been a fan of panic or phish either. Yet, all three bands have a huge following. Sorry panic heads!

Although I love them, I've got to put CSN on this list. Just not enough quality work since about 1980 for them to continue to be considered to be the superstars they were in the 70's.

Makes sense and I get why they didn't try "anything" but it didn't have to be a disco song or something. Just anything using a slightly different chord pattern would be nice.

I just think over-rated is a good term for them. The talent does not match the success. But the die-hard fans don't match the ticket sales either. They have peaks every few years where the "in" thing is to see AC/DC. This tour is a perfect example. Tons of people that don't really like hard rock nor know their material besides the radio songs and Back In Black album.

Many bands don't change their formula like the Ramones or Moterhead for example. But they are not treated and played as some of the best bands ever.

Sonic Youth got more rave reviews as being "cutting edge" and "avante garde".

Saw them open for Neil Young and they were gawdaweful, just a bunch of pretentious noise.

"Watch me play a slide solo with a screwdriver", nice tone that got.
