West of the Mississippi, its actually kind of hard to beat Missouri and the Ozark Mountains.
Northern Missouri has a very nice area , Weston.
In my old stomping grounds, supposed to be the largest hard maple tree grove west of the Mississipi. Hills of fire.
Just goy back from Missouri a little while ago and just now starting to get some color. May go back next Saturday for some fun and festivities at the KC Ren Fest...and a turkey leg and a beer.

Like a lot of south Floridians, we sometimes go leaf peeping in
the Carolinas. Blueridge Parkway is spectacular. I hope to make
it to the New England states for autumn one of these days.

I saw a story the other day about Vermont having the highest concentration of sugar maples in the country which gives them the edge as far as Fall colors go. I've seen some sweet colors in upstate NY and the hills of Kentucky as well. But, I have also seen some amazing foliage in my native state of West Virginia, especially filling up the New River Gorge around the Bridge Day Festival.

Sitting here watching the Alabama Arkansas game my first thought was Alabama....red and white. But I have to admit that ocean visual is stuck in my head.

I have to agree with Derek about Vermont. NH and Maine are quite stunning too but Vermont really seems to be even more so...

LOL
Yes those are beautiful, but sometimes we get nostalgic for a little autumn chill
and the glorious colors of the season. It generally lasts less than a week though
and we are ready to come home. And the past couple of years I have given up
the leaves for music, preferring Gregg and Friends to the autumn chill!

I'm partial to that red and whitle visual!

Best I've gotten to see has been the Smokies, Tennessee and Carolina...I've always wanted to go to New England in the fall though!

NH, Maine, Vt. hands down.
Upstate NY and central and western PA are pretty damn good too.
I remember last year driving to the PSU concert - great color.

Also grew up in the Berkshires of MA. Most beautiful countrysides in all of New England. Also somewhat partial to southern VT as it's only about 5 miles away. Absolutely Love this time of year.

Upstate New York ( specifically the Catskills ) ............ Hunter Mountain ( Home of Mountain Jam !!! ) has an October Fest the first 2 weekends in October , and most of my skiing crew heads up during the 2nd weekend ( Columbus Weekend ) for the fall foliage viewing and drinking our share of pints at the Beer fest. Since we are all season pass holders for ski season we have free access to the Chairlift to the summit. ( non pass holders can buy tickets for the lift ride ) That weekend is usually right around peak color weekend in the Catskills and the chairlift ride is great especially when you come down the lift ( obviously not a direction you're used to ! ) and can see the colors of the surrounding mountains and the valley too . One of the couples of my ski bunch got married up at Hunter on Columbus weekend and they have some of the most spectacular wedding photos from a picture perfect sunny day with the exploding colors of the Catskills . This year has the extra added attraction of Levon Helm & his band giving a FREE afternoon show in the town of Hurley ( which is near Woodstock ) on Sunday Oct 11 if anyone in the NYC area is looking for a reason to daytrip to the region. Info is HERE >>>> http://www.levonhelm.com/john_gill_farm.htm

If you fly into Birmingham and take the drive up to Gadsden, or if you come over from Atlanta non-Interstate, through Cedartown, or through Cartersville and Cave Springs, you will see some beautiful country. Best time is late October. Like the 23rd & 24th
