I haven't heard anything at all Rainy! I'm getting concerned as Deb is always on here even if just for a little while most weekday evenings. Sending out some healing vibes to Lola that she is OK. Hugs out to Deb...

Thanks to you all for your thoughtfulness. It means a lot to me. Kind of been in a heartbroken state this past week. Nothing definite to report on Lola except my playful 'puppy' (she's almost 12 but has always been a big puppy at heart and physically) suddenly began experiencing pain (not constant but certain movements would cause her to cry) and what appeared to be some difficulty in movement in her back legs last week. I'm finding a very sucky fact of life being that dog years are much to fleeting when compared to the people years of those of us who are blessed to have our lives graced by some magnificent four-legged friend.

Not sure what's wrong with Lola. According to the vet the legs are ok, xray indicates spine is ok, and they don't want to do xrays on her hips because of anesthesia necessary to immobolize for that procedure and her age - which means don't know for sure what's wrong. Because she is eating well, still playing with her toys, excited about her visitors (because anybody who visits this house is here to see her as far as she's concerned ), will do her coochie-mama dance when scratched on the butt just right, and seems happy the vet advised me to go with drug treatment - anti-inflammatories and pain meds (which he assured me would not make her all dopey because I don't see that being quality life for her). So that's what we're doing right now. I'm trusting in his opinion - he said this is what he would do were it his dog - and hoping that he wasn't reacting to my tears (because I love her too much to want anything but what is best for her). I've also been doing massages on her hind quarters and am working out an easier ramp system to help her getting in the house (which naturally involves steps at all entrances). So it's wait and see and if this doesn't appear to be the best thing for Lola then I'll do what may break my heart but will be best for her.

I know in the big scheme of things this little doggie is just a speck, infantesimal, but any of you who love an animal know that in your own life a four legged friend lives large so I really do appreciate the kindnesses and concern... it means a lot to me.

Glad to hear from you Deb. Hope everything works out for Lola!

Sounds a little like arthritis in the hips ... maybe. My parents lab has issues like that.
Cries when trying to get up or slips a little or sometimes on the stairs.

Sorry to hear Lola's not well Deb. Sounds like you're doing what you can. The vet sounds like a good one, so maybe the therapy will keep her a happy pup for a good while longer.

In my 61 years, I have learned that you can get a pretty good read on people by watching them interact with animals on a long-term basis (sheep excluded). Animals can be high maintainence, can't really be "used" by anybody, require daily attention, are at the mercy of people. People have to have a certain amount of goodness in them to respond with care to an entity that can't really do anything for them. Such people are worth knowing.

Deb, a broker in our office had a brother who was somewhat of an invalid, and really missed his puppy when he got too old to jump up on the bed anymore. So for Christmas, the brother got a carpenter to make a ramp with carpet, attached to the footboard. For the dog.

I hope everything works out and Lola has a lot more time with you. Your love for her is evident and you don't need to downplay her importance. She is no small speck to you and that's all that matters. I lost my Deidre four years ago on Halloween and I still miss her dearly. All we can do as pet owners is give our babies the best care and all the love they deserve while they are here and you have obviously done that with Lola.

It is so good to hear from you Deb. I hope the meds work wonders for Lola.
Out ten year old cat is showing his age and is on prednisone for his respiratory problems.
In the last months they lived, my ferrets were on it also. Seems to make them feel
like living again for a while.

Another thing, if it's joints, is glucosamine chondroitin. In this country it was originally approved
for dogs and some people started taking their dogs meds until it was
approved for humans.

Hugs to you and Lola.

Deb you are the most thoughtfull so it's natural for us to be concerned when something worries you. You have been there with support and well wishes to any and all and you so deserve it now! May all our postive healing energy be sent your way... I do hope that the wait and see doesn't make you too sad but of coarse you can't help but be concerned about your dear Lola. I hope that perhaps the anti-inflamatories are what does the trick. You hang in there and we are here for you so please keep us informed on how things are going. Love and hugs!
