Great show from a great band. Very nice sit ins, including Jimmy. He and Derek seem to bring the best out in each other. You can tell they love playing with each other. There was a taper there who will be putting the show on archive.org. YouTubes tomorrow.

Sounds like a wonderful show!!! And I agree - always special when Derek and Jimmy Herring get together playing ... they really do seem to have a special connection.

Looks like a Gretsch .

Thanks for the video.

Derek is pretty fortunate being able to have Jimmy on stage wednesday night and the next night have Jack Pearson there. I'm doing a good job right now of kicking myself in the arse for not taking a few vacation days to go to these shows. I should take it easy on myself I guess. I'm sure they'll all be at the Arlington Guitar show since its the same weekend the ABB/WSP show is in town.

Wow, what a show last night in Athens, Georgia! Derek tore it up! How does he do it?? Good to see the Atlanta musical folks again, although it’s too bad we all had to drive so far to get together—and I’m here to tell you Athens has a number of one way streets—I’m like, “why did everybody park facing the wrong way on this street?” so it was good that I could provide some entertainment for the people in the bars along the way until I decided to conform and drive the same way everybody else was…

As always, life is very very good on the front row! Many thanks to Brock for the ticket! That’s how he got those great pictures! And for the people with calendars, you can mark off December 2nd and 3rd…YonRico announced that the Derek Trucks band will be appearing at the Variety Playhouse those days (their old home before they started playing the fox on nye), meaning if I want to celebrate my favorite band’s fortieth anniversary it looks like I’ll have to drive to another state to do it!

Hated missing the show. Had other pressing matters to take care of. Maybe next time.

Yes, another great DTB show! Thanks for the set list (I always have a hard time remembering songs played, even at my own shows!), photos and video. I have a few photos, but my camera sucks with no flash (not allowed), so will only post a couple. I walked up to the back and took a couple to get the full stage view with the beautiful backdrop. My son, Stephen, finally met Derek. He got "hooked" on Derek's work a couple of years ago, and has been a student since, and it has opened up a new work with his own songriting and playing. He listens/watches to everything Derek's done that he can get his hands on via CDs, live recordings from tapers, YouTube, etc. It was really cool to watching him interact with Derek.

The Classic Center is a beautiful venue with awesome sound system. It was a little strange walking into the place where I had last seen Gregg Allman & Friends years ago, and to see Derek and the boys take that big stage. Things have definitely changed for DTB for the better, but they're the same guys with the same beautiful spirit and love of their fans

Yonrico announced that in place of the New Year's Eve show at the Fox, DTB will be performing at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta on Dec. 2 and 3!

Derek is indeed lucky that two great players like Jack and Jimmy would play with him. It goes beyond that, though.

We are lucky that Derek Trucks is cool enough and welcoming enough that he will bring some awesome players on stage - obviously he is so comfy in his own skin that he knows he will play with them, not versus them - no ego. Some players would never let someone who might show them up appear onstage with them. Some folks want the spotlight and their own solos all night. Derek is cool. He wants great music.

No offense to Jack or Jimmy, but I doubt that the presence of either of them sells many more tickets. This was a purely musical decision, not commercial. Derek wants to make great music.

It is clearly that attitude of Derek's that makes these awesome players happy to play with him. Jimmy Herring and Lack Pearson do not need to sit in with **** s. They are at a point where they will sit in with someone who is great to play with. They do not need to sell out. Their presence says a lot - you can tell the character of a man by who his friends are, etc. Jack and Jimmy are great musicians who want to make great music, and they know who they can make it with: DT.

I'll say it again - we are lucky to be around to see Derek Trucks come into his own.

^Well put Jim. Derek was really enjoying himself last night.

Herring's appearance did not sell any extra tix because he was a surprise guest. We did not find out until Atlbarb spotted him after Mofro. I actually wish they had announced him; there were hundreds of unfilled seats last night in a 2k seat venue and that was a shame.
