Watching a clip of this youtube. Looks like a must have for fans of this band.

Is the directors cut worth grabbing?

The directors cut has an uncut version of the concert as well as the original version. I prefer my music dvd's with uncut concerts.

This is Floyd at their best...imagine how cool it must have been, to just go set up in Pompeii and jam

Hmmmmm I'm not the ultimate Pink Floyd authority but I think the footage of Pink Floyd mixing DARK SIDE OF THE MOON was not in the original version. I could be wrong. However I believe that the scenes of the band eating breakfast and working inside Abbey Road was included in a later cut of the film.

I saw the original at a drive in and halfway through the movie a snowstorm hit! It was pretty cool, like an extra prop or something.

I have a picture around somewhere of me in the Pompei Ampitheatre where Floyd played.

My wife was shaking her head as usual since there was just an absurd amount of history and artifacts there and the first thing I asked the tour guide was....." Show me where Pink Floyd played "

Pink Floyd at Pompeii = genius. Love this video and have been blessed to visit Pompeii ... very moving experience. Just the thought of what it must have felt like being there on this night in this place listening to that wonderful music with the stars above gives me chills (lucky folks on this production crew )

That is a classic story man....laughing at that one, as it sounds like what many of us might have done.

You should have seen my jaw drop when I flew into London and rode a train into town and passed the ACTUAL factory depicted on the front of the Animals album....I don't know why I was so amazed, duh they used an actual place....but it was just so cool seeing it in person.

I love the moment in the film where, as they are working on their studio album, the interviewer asks them something to the effect of whether Pink Floyd has run out of ideas, if their popularity and relevance has peaked and waned. He asks this while they are working on "Dark Side of the Moon", a record that may STILL be on the charts....the live stuff is truly amazing and the empty amphitheater is an eerie setting for it.

I have the VHS and the "dark side" studio stuff isn't on it. The DVD sounds better. I like this era of Floyd alot.

I also love this DVD - mine has the Dark Side stuff on it....

Echoes is one of my favorites - it was a highlight for me in David Gilmour's last tour....

Speaking of Pink Floyd, I have watched most of the semi recent "biography" type shows lately, can't remember the names of them all but they are semi recent as they interview the survivors and they look their age....

Anyhow, my point is that hearing Gilmour and Waters speak these days is just cool. They seem to be over whatever rift existed between them, at least to me and they all readily give props to Syd, as they should.

Love hearing those guys talk, that old English wit and understatement...still alive and well.

In one of the recent shows I saw, I believe it was Nick Mason...talking about when they moved on without Syd back in the day...he said, "oh yes it did bother me, tremendously. It bothered me to the point that I almost said something." Classic.

i was at the second night of David Gilmour at Radio City on 4/5/06 and the Echoes was amazing. had not listened to that in awhile, put it on the other day and the whole show was great. it was great to have Crosby and Nash sing on a couple songs too. what a night that was.

The directors cut DVD includes the original theatrical version in the Bonus Features section. The original feature is in 3:4 aspect ratio. The directors cut is in 9:16 and includes a lot of throw in stuff like space footage and the like set to Pink Floyd music. A lot of people don't seem to like the director's cut, but I'd say buy it since the original version is on it as well. Regardless, I love this film.
