Tom is such a trip, there is no other performer like him. He's in a class of his own.

Would love to see him live.

I was hoping you would see this. I know you like him.

My Sister and her husband saw him live, she did not like him until then. She said it was a great show at a very small venue.

So you quite like him then ?
I think the man is just about the best lyricist to walk the face of the earth. I adore the music of Tom Waits, saw him in Prague last year, just fabulous. Favourite albums: Blue Valentine, Rain Dogs, Bone Machine & Mule Variations. Fave tracks: Walking Spanish, Cold Cold Ground, Down There By The Train, Christmas Card From A Hooker In Minneapolis (how can you not love a song with this title), Train Song, Wrong Side Of The Road, Whistle Down The Wind.....as much as i'd like to, i won't go on.

As I'm with some kindred spirits here....

My favorite Waits albums are Small Change (first one I heard) and Nighthawks at the Diner (number 2).

But I also love Heart of Saturday Night, Blue Valentine, Swordfish Trombones, Rain Dogs, Frank's Wild Years, Bone Machine, Mule Variations, and especially Orphans.

To quote Brofan, Tom Waits is a national treasure.

that NPR show is the ATL date at the Fox. My lord was he incredible that night. So glad my and my buds got to see him again. Hearing November and Hold On back to back about bowled me over.

the Bone Machine rips, and Raindogs, Small Change, Closing Time, I pretty much like them all though. he definitely takes some getting used to, but when it all clicks - WOW. great lyrics and the years w/ Marc Ribot on guitar really hit the note - such a great sound amid all the clangin' & bangin', moanin' & groanin'.

Love Tom! Saw him live a couple of times and it's an incredible show. My partner never cared much for him until seeing him live and is now a fan. Saw him do "On the Nickel" on Letterman years back and went out the next day and bought a couple of his albums. Great actor as well: Check him out as Renfield in the worst Dracula movie ever made (thanks to some idiot name of Keanu) Tom doesn't tour much, but when he does, make the effort to see him, it's one of the best concerts you'll get to

Definitely. I really enjoyed his role as Rudy the Kraut in Ironweed.

I've seen the man twice (albeit years ago).......DON'T miss him if you ever get the chance....

small change got rained on with his own 38 (he is so theatrical - had his umbrella and all during that song....)

Waits, Bukwoski & Rickie Lee Jones.....discovered them all around the same time, right before she came out with her first album........wow (I'm snapping my fingers over here in appreciation.....)

Looks like Tom has a new live album on the way. Apparently it's choice cuts from his recent Glitter & Doom tour. I would have preferred some new material, but i'll take this.

One of my favorite lines of his has got to be from Mule Variations, Hold On, "Go ahead call the cops. You don't meet nice girls in coffee shops."

Simple, but great.

goin' out west has worn thin on me, hearing both those bands cover it on multiple occasions. i'd rather hear a mule or wsp original.
