If anyone has any doubts that the ABB will NOT be playing the Beacon next year, here is the final word:

As much as all of us would like to see the ABB return the the Beacon, the Dolans made a sound business decision. They get their venue booked for three months solid (96 shows) with almost guaranteed sell outs.

Screw Dolan!!!

Good news is that the NYC run will happen somewhere. Here is what Butch himself just posted today on the Moogis board.

You got it bro. We are working on a new venue now and we understand the unique nature of the three week stand in New York. We know that for a lot of you it is more than just the shows and we are going to ensure that the 24/7 non stop party environment will be available. The Beacon was fun but it is, after all, about the music and we can play that music elsewhere and The Beacon can go the hell when Cirque d'Soliel leaves. We'll be elsewhere having a ball.

And Moogis will be there too!!!

The Beacon has a capacity of 2,900

Here are some likely alternatives:

Radio City - 6,000

Nokia - 2,100

United Palace - 3,300
This place is way out of Manhattan on 175th in Harlem, but has hosted multiple night runs from the Black Crowes, Van Morrison and Widespread Panic in the last couple years. Nice place too, just far.

United Palace is too far away and Radio City is owned by the Dolans. I could deal with Nokia but it is GA standing on the floor. The sound at Nokia is second to none IMO.

I actually read the Beacon Theatre email and thought "good, the Circ is only through April." Weirder things could happen than the Brothers back at the Beacon in 2009 sometime in May or later.

Yet those bastards produced that oh-so-slick hour-long special MSG ran about the renovations and what the ABB mean to the theater.

What a bunch of hypocritical c%#@$uckers.

"Uncle Bob" included.

He's the number two guy at MSG, dontcha know?

You don't see vinsanity around here bragging about his connections now, do you?

Radio City = Huge no ambiance

NOKIA = Good sound, no seats

United Palace = Don't be a wuss. Most Beacon like in looks, sound and seating. By some Dominican roast chicken, don't diss Manny being manny and enjoy the run

Looks like the Beacon pissed him off but good putting the screws to them especialy after being so cooperative with MOOGIS. Shame I hope the magic can continue the Beacon was something else.

I'm glad I made it for a weekend in 2006.

Very special memories.

Had it not been for Bobo Fest, I never would have gone.

I'm guessing you mean it's way out IN Manhattan, because Harlem is most certainly in Manhattan.

Neil Young did a stand at the Palace in late 2006 and I caught one of those shows with my girlfriend. It's definitely a Beacon-esque theater, with gaudy decor and an old fashioned feel. It's definitely out of the way, though. Getting out of there was pretty painful: there was only one subway stop open when the show let out, and hundreds of people were jammed in there, trying to get through the gate. If the ABB goes there I hope that will be handled much, much better. Obviously it's not cab convenient to a lot of places either. I don't know anything about the neighborhood.

I agree that Radio City is probably out because it's owned by Cablevision. I don't think I'd ever been there until this February, when we saw David Byrne. It's a beautiful place but the stage is just enormous, and if you are in the balcony, you have very clear sightlines but you're very, very far away from the stage. It's probably not the best choice.

I knew this was coming but I'm sorry to hear it. I'm sure I'll be there next year, wherever the run happens, but it's disappointing and it won't be the same. I've been at the Beacon every year but one since 1997 and I think I've seen upwards of 30 shows there. This year in particular was really special for me and for my family.

When the Dolan family spent all that money on renovating the theater and pimping it out in their TV special last year, they went on and on about the musical history and the ABB in particular. So much for that. No wonder these guys are so beloved, right? I find myself wondering about Gregg's endorsement of the renovations. I suspect he's feeling a bit used.
