Is there any news on where and if any shows will be played to replace the Beacon run in 2010. I'm planning a trip to NY in March and want to coincide it with a couple of shows if they happen. I was there for the 2005 run and have missed it so if I can get it right with the dates then that would be great. Sorry if this has been talked about in another post, I did search but couldn't find anything.
Best Wishes to you all,
Steve

They have to play New York and even at the end of the Beacon run they said they were looking for another venue in New York. If they can't find one, we'll have to call Extreme Homemakeover, have PhotoRon make a video tape and let them come and do some demo(lition) to some broken down place and make a new home for the band to come to. Just tell them, if you build it they will come!

I don't think there will be a problem with ABB finding a theater for a three week run.
I'm sure there are many theater owners that would jump on a deal, especially if the theater is underused or dark.
I hope it's not the Palace Thr., it's way freakin uptown Mnahattan. It's almost in the Bronx. Van Morrison, and Neil Young played there at high prices($250-175). Knopfler is playing there. Seats 3,200, so it's in the same seating range as the Beacon.

I doubt Radio City Music Hall could be had. That would be nice, I guess but, I just don't find the place cozy. Seats over 5,000.

In Madison Square Garden, besides the arena, they have "The Theater" which holds between 2000-5600. Ages ago was called the Felt Forum. I saw Plant & Krauss there. Not bad of a place. I think it can work. It's more like one swooping floor section that rises up. No seperate tier levels.

I just hope they keep it mid-Manhattan as possible. Easier for out-of-towners making connections with bus and train terminals.

Lets buy the old Fillmore location and turn it back into an auditorium. Not a logical idea, but the thought was nice. Isn't the old Fillmore location a bank now?

Last time I walked by the old Fillmore in 2006, it was called "Immigrant Bank". It looks like the whole place has been chopped up behind the face of the building. I think it probably only remains in memory unfortunately.

Quote from Wikipedia

"In 1980, the former Fillmore East site became The Saint, a private gay club. As of 2007, the former entrance lobby is a branch of Emigrant Savings Bank. The rest of the interior has been demolished and replaced with an apartment complex."

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the Nokia. That's my guess, if not Radio City

The 2010 NYC RUN will be great. I just know that Gregg and the other guys will make sure its a memorable Place. Now, if we could only get the Band to do a "Canadian ABB RUN" that would be even better. Have the NYC Run and a shortened Canadian ABB Run....YES

It's out of the way, but in a nice area and a free ferry ride away from Lower Manhattan.

http://stgeorgetheatre.com/aboutus.htm#History

The site says it has 2800 seats, nearby food and bars, hotels on the Island amd for those who want the city scene, it's about a 1/2 hour ferry ride from Manhattan. Can't say much about sound quality or if they can even handle a show like the ABB, but it does have a "Beaconesque" look to it. If you don't mind taking the Subway, might as well take the Ferry.

Be safe.
