Not sure if this topic has been mentioned yet, but this is the monster that kidnapped that girl out in California, raped her and had two daughters by her, and now is possibly wanted in the connection of 10 other missing persons. They had a woman on Larry King the other night that was abducted by him in the late 70s and held in a warehouse in Reno for 8 hours while he raped her. My question is, why do these scum serve maybe 8-10 years max, and then they are right back doing the same thing? Does the justice system really think these people can be cured? The sentence for rape or sexual molestation should be death or life in prison. I think rape should be a life sentence. To me, itís worse than murder because the victim has essentially been emotionally murdered, but still has to live a tortured life.

This guy is scum and needs to die, or be thrown in general population so the inmates can treat him the way he treated others.

The recidivism rate for people like this is so high, incarceration or a really short leash is the only way to protect others from being victims. I want to know how his parole officer never detected this.

This one is really disturbing. Can''t even imagine what kind of recovery process will be needed for this poor girl, Jaycee Lee Duggard (who, although technically an adult now has had her development arrested and has basically not matured beyond the level she was at when abducted ... which happens to be about the same age as the children she bore by this freak) I pray for Jaycee and her children to make it through this and can only imagine her mother's relief at having her daughter back after 18 long years.

Trying to figure out how this monster slipped between the cracks when he was on parole (and even imprisoned) for much of the time he was holding this poor woman/child captive. Given his extensive history of sexual crimes, his crazy behavior, regular visits from a parole officer, the state of the 'compound' he built, reports from neighbors and others about his erratic behaviour, his appearances in the community with the children ... how did this one slip under the radar?

"You are going to be completely impressed," he said. "It's a disgusting thing that took place with me at the beginning. But I turned my life completely around and to be able to understand that, you have to start there."

Not impressed but I am disgusted. Both Garrido and his wife need to be locked away for life.

This is just horribly tragic. I'm anti-death penalty generally, but if there is to be one, to have it instituted for rape leaves the rapist no incentive to let his victims live. Life w/o parole seems approriate here, and for his wife as well.

I can't believe the guy got back out on the street, and am amazed he was not caught years ago.
I guess he didn't need building permits for his Shanty Town.
..and police helicopters, seems like this might have raised some eyebrows, at least as a pot growing suspect.

One of his neighbors said something I thought was pretty appropriate in so far as I totally agree with her. She said she had a knife and would like to 'peel him like a grape'.

Right, but we dare not "torture" suspected terrorists because the US is above all that. This even before he's convicted of anything.........

Unfortunately, there is precedence for this type of stuff, and it usually does not turn out well. I think initially the reunion with the families go well, then for the most part the victim is a shut in or may even develop severe schizophrenia or multiple personality disorders. Many times a multiple personality disorder stems from some severe trauma like this where the victim will develop an alter ego or personality to escape from the trauma.

One of our familyís good friends used to be Director of the Secret Service under Clinton and Bush, and now works on behalf of missing children. He told me, you donít even want to know what is going on out there. Quite frankly, I donít even know how the people investigating such crimes deal with it mentally.

Castration, death or life in prison is the only way to deal with this kind of **** . Man, it actually turns my stomach.

And who gives them their set of rules (LAWS) to abide by? You stopped at the first limb, but didn't climb the whole tree.

The state legislature, you know, the governing body of the State of California.

Then all of a sudden it's "MY attorney," like they have some sort of indentured servant at their beck and call. Then the bill arrives and the hate starts anew. Don't get me started!

I don't know that much about this sick-o and wife as it really disturbed me. Heard some stuff on TV and a playback of what this sick-monster was saying shortly after he was incarcerated. As far as I'm concerned physical castration and life-time in prison with no isolation. Should have been done after his first rape conviction.

Um, Im not defending lawyers, Im merely pointing out your error as to why Garrido got out of prison. You were blaming lawyers but the laws are created by the state legislature.

Patty, Patty, Patty. Didn't you hear? The government, the Constitution, lawyers and the rule of law now all suck and are bad for the country.

It's a new dawn...of...conservativeanarchism?
