In the past I've gone to several shows a year at Jones Beach but like many here the prison yard mentality of the security at the venue had driven me away to the point where the only show I attended this year at the venue was WSP/ABB Thursday. The first thing I noticed after I parked was the openness of drinking in the lot. While most people still had the sense to put their beverage of choice into a red cup, I saw beer cans and bottles being openly consumed. The guy next to me was drinking straight from an open bottle of Jim Bean. Park security drove by twice, not so much of a warning was given to anyone. On the way in, I noticed the pat down was less invasive then it used to be. My friend had a compact tool on his belt, which contains a small knife, which he forgot to leave in the car. The security guy just suggested he should put it in his pocket and let him in. While inside, when the lights went down, joints and bowls were sparking up everywhere without much discretion. Just like old times at The Beacon. Even spotted a guy roaming through the rows who was obviously dealing. A security guy stood at the end of our row for some time but didn't cause a scene of any kind. So I'm wondering, did concertgoers protest the bad vibe of the military type security to the point where it was affecting attendance and were ordered to cool it? Curious to know what anyone else thought regarding this who's been to shows there this year.

I, too, found the security at Jones Beach to be almost non-existent, also at PNC last week. A friend introduced me to one of the security guys at PNC who told me that The ABB gives very clear orders to venue security to "take it easy" on their crowd. That was great to hear.

Agree with what's been said aleady. Usually take a rolled one in with me any time there and see what the situation is like. First time in a while there I got to spark the whole thing. Someone nearby smelled like they were smokin' some fine stuff Sec. 11 .....
