Nine years ago, damn.

Some folks remember where they were when Kennedy (John) died. (How strange that Ted passed today).

I will always remember when Alan Woody died. I was at an ABB show in Chicago and they were playing Mule over the PA before the show which I found strange since at that time they typically just played old blues.

A dear friend of mine (Cee Cee Russell - a sister) informed me of the sad news following the close of the show.

I'll be at Bethel Woods tonight. Wonder if They'll do a video tribute to Woody. I'm sure they will.

I didn't know today was the anniversary of Allen's passing. What a shame. I sure liked his style.

Thanks for posting. Seven Turns will get played today a couple of times.

RIP Allen. We miss you.

I remember where I was when I heard it. I was working night shift at the hospital, it brought me down.

There was only one Cap'n Al - Just saw the Mule last month in Charlotte and had quite a few Woody moments during the show as they sure are playin it the way they "used" to! I know woody's smilin down on this mule tour! Will play some old school mule and some early 90's ABb today in his memory! First up the Banks of The Deep end as Warren mourns his paaing!!!

Capt.Al rest in peace. A great player and very funny man, I'll be burning some rope in your memory tonight. Speaking of Seven Turns,I saw Dickey & GS in Detroit just a few days after Woody passed and Dickey dedicated that song to "a fallen Brother, Allen Woody".

I saw the Allmans the night before at a blues fest in Madison. The next night Susan Tedeschi announced that Allen had passed away. There probably weren't a lot of people in the crowd who knew who he was, but after Susan finished playing the most gut-wrenching version of "It Hurts So Bad" (or any song, for that matter), no one in the crowd doubted what he meant to her.

The Allmans had been pretty bland the night before, and with Allen's passing I figured I was witnessing the end of the Allman Brothers' era. I could not have imagined we would bear witness to what they have accomplished over the past nine years. It's bitter sweet, because we all know (even Warren admits) it would not have happened had Allen Woody not passed away.

Isn't life's mysteries like that. Who knows why one road leads to another?

I only know that if Allen had not used what he was using, if he had figured out that there is more than one way to deal with his issues, he might still be around with the people who love him and the people who he loved. I am sure he would do it differently if he considered that he might die. Of course that is neither here nor there. Just that August makes me think of what could have been if only, when I think of Allen and Jerry. That is all I am gonna say besides rest in peace Allen. You are missed even by people who did not know you.

If you are going to shoot up, NEVER do it alone.

the paramedics have a drug that immediately reverses the effect of heroin
on respiratory arrest.

But someone has to be there make the 911 call.

But it is best to leave the Hard drugs alone. Not many can handle that trip.

I miss Captain Al very much.

Allen Woody, RIP brother. Oct 3, 1955 - Aug 26, 2000. 9 years ago today, we lost a great person and musician. Allen Woody was bassist for the Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule, the Artimus Pyle Band (APB), the Peter Criss Band and Montage. He also played in a Pink Floyd tribute band called Blue Floyd. I had the pleasure of meeting Allen in Seattle in 1997 and 1998 at the Fenix Underground club downtown. Great memory to have. We miss ya brother Allen!

RIP Woodman.

" Just the sound of his walking, split the whole dam town in two"

Too many great woodman memories to remember but what stands out is him handing me Fender Heavy pick from the stage of the beacon after the show on 4/1/94 and me and a friend having a funny conversation with Allen after a Blue Floyd show at the Bottom Line in NYC. He had a great sense of humor and it was like breaking chops with an old friend rather than a brilliant musician that we looked up to.

Rest In Peace Woody. You went way too soon, were too unknown and underrated. Those of us who know will never forget.

RIP Woody - For some reason or another I haven't seen the Mule without him. I know that's been along time, but it just hasn't happened. I think I'll try to revisit the Mule at the Hampton Beach Casino in October.

I'll never forget getting the phone call from my wife, then fiance. She had heard the news on Howard Stern's radio show, of all places. I was in shock, ran to the computer and pulled up mule.net to find that it was true.
So glad I had the opportunity to see Woody play with The Brothers and to have my rib cage rattled in numerous small bars in the late 90s. That original trio meant, and still means, the world to me, totally shaping and expanding my young music-listening mind.
I miss Allen Woody.

I was once called a "Mule-ette" by Woody during a radio interview the Mule did at WMMR in Philadelphia, probably around 1997. I was the only female that called in that night and pretty much the only person that didn't ask a weird question. I still have a copy of that on CD somewhere.

RIP, Woody.
