Hey all,
I was at the SD Street Scene & thought it was a pretty good show. New tunes came off tight & the crowd was into it. The 4-way break on Southbound was amazing! Then I saw the setlist from The Greek. WOW!
But I see they played Elizabeth Reed a couple more times since then. Wondering what's changed to start playing Dickey music after so long. No complaint, I love it, but does anyone have any insight why?
I heard a Jessica in Ohio right after he was kicked out, but nothing else since. I figure it's been a sore point, but man I love to hear the tunes!

From what I can tell, the band has settled on Liz Reed as the main Dickey instrumental that they still play. I can understand the band not wanting to lean on Mr. Betts' tunes too much, but I think they should bring out at least one more classic Dickey instrumental. Since Warren co-wrote True Gravity, that might be the best choice.

By the way, Elizabeth Reed SMOKED in Atlanta. Easily the best Dickey song I've seen them play since he left the band.

Nothing's changed, it never left. Liz Reed has been played consistently post-Dickey, dating back to June 2000. It's being played less and less often, but it's still there. The other instrumentals he wrote that, on the other hand, have faded out of the rotation since then: Les Brers was last played in September 2000, High Falls in March 2001, Jessica in March of 2002. Other than that (and his co-writing credits on Mountain Jam and Hot'Lanta), the only Dickey songs the band plays are songs he wrote but didn't sing (Revival and Southbound, which he did sing often).

They played "High Falls" & "Jessica" in 2001. As well as some others, like "Revival" & "Southbound". - Butch had said back when this whole thing went down that the only 2 songs they wouldn't play are "Blue Sky" & "Ramblin' Man" because they feel Dickey's voice is too important of a part of those songs. He said there is nothing else they wouldn't consider playing.
