Bob Dylan is set to release an album of Christmas songs this holiday season.

As first reported on the website BullyPulpit.com, at least four songs have already been recorded for the album including, "Must Be Santa," "Here Comes Santa Claus," "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and "O Little Town of Bethlehem." Billboard has confirmed the existence of the album.

According to the report, sessions have occurred at Jackson Browne's Santa Monica, Calif. recording studio.

Dylan, who was born Robert Zimmerman, will join a music business tradition of Jewish artists who release Christmas-themed albums, including Neil Diamond and Phil Spector. Irving Berlin, who wrote the yuletide classic "White Christmas," was also Jewish. Although he was born Jewish and seems to have returned to the faith, Dylan went through a "born again" Christian phase from 1979-1981, releasing several gospel-style albums including "Slow Train Coming" and "Saved."

Dylan's most recent album, "Together Through Life," was released in April, entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1 and has sold more the 300,000 copies to date according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Hope his lyrics are easier to understand than when I saw him w/ Willie and Mellencamp last month. I needed an interpreter.

I think you are right, Bob Weir should handle the vocals.

I started a thread here recently titled, "Why Doesn't Dylan Hire a Singer?" and was about laughed off of the site. It appears more people agree with me than cared to admit it in the previous thread. I think it's a good idea, even when Bob's doing his OWN material. It doesn't mean that Bob would do NO vocals at all. But just Bob singing on a record of XMAS music? <OUCH>

I like Bob's vocals......the name Weir & vocals shouldn't even be in the same sentence.

I'm a little surprised that Bob Dylan celebrates Christmas.

An instrumental album from him would probably be alright.

THE release date for Dylan new cd is October 13

Christmas In The Heart will be the 47th album from Bob Dylan, and follows his worldwide chart-topping Together Through Life, released earlier this year. Songs performed by Dylan on this new album include, "Here Comes Santa Claus," "Winter Wonderland," "Little Drummer Boy" and "Must Be Santa."

All of Bob Dylan's U.S. royalties from sales of these recordings will be donated to Feeding America, guaranteeing that more than four million meals will be provided to more than 1.4 million people in need in this country during this year's holiday season. Bob Dylan is also donating all of his future U.S. royalties from this album to Feeding America in perpetuity.

As Adam Sandler wrote
in Chanukah Song II

Bob Dylan was born a Jew
Then he wasn't
but now he's back,

I guess he is going to have to update the lyrics. Maybe the police incident at the Jersey Shore made him see the light?

Bob is one of the all-time genius'. but this is why the rest of us have zip codes and he receives his mail in another solar system

I have a feeling this is going to be a "play it once and file it away" kind of novelty release.

There probably will be some initial buzz and Dylan loyalists (such as myself) will go out and get it. However it's going to be forgotten pretty quickly and soon you'll find it at Walmart for $6.99.

Also I have a feeling that the critics might not me too kind with this one. We'll have to see...
