Sorry to hear this about Richie Hayward, I know he's got a "long road" to go down, and I certainly hope, wish and pray for the very best for him. Btw, Richie ALWAYS has been one of my favorite drummers.

FROM LITTLE FEAT:

We’re of course with you in sending all the best vibes of support to our brother Richie. We are pleased to say that Richie’s seat is being kept warm by a member of the family – Gabe Ford, who’s been our drum tech for the past almost three years. Gabe’s a fine drummer – just came off a tour with Jorma Kaukonen, Robben Ford, and Ruthie Foster – and we know he can keep Feat rockin’.

Meantime, please join us in all the healing thoughts at your command. You know that’s what’s on our minds.

Yours,

Everybody at Little Feat

p.s. By the way, since people have been asking – Feat’s tour plans remain as normal, right up to Jamaica. See the website about August; we’re also working on shows for the fall.

Information about the 08/23/09 fundraiser for Richie can be found at www.pacificdisturbance.com or at Facebook.

I quick skimmed the message from him.....

I assume it is Hep C, could be other, but odds are.....

Points out what I have said all along.

GET INFORMED. GET TESTED.

The sooner you find out, the greater chance of fixing the liver you do have. The liver is an amazing organ and if not too far gone, can heal somewhat.

It points out the NO INSURANCE situation of musicians. They need benefit shows and donations for when this stuff happens. Where are the blood sucking managers, promoters, venue owners, and yes other musicians when this happens? Poof, vaporized in the wind is where......

Gregg Allman is in a great position to make a dent in this situation, be an advocate, and bring all this to light. I mean who listens to me? But he apparently digested bad info, he and Butch spread falsehoods about the disease, and months after treatment GA proclaimed himself cured. Sad perception of it all.

GET INFORMED GET TESTED!!!!!

BTW, I am past 3 years undetectable on mine, I would cautiously say cured. Funny, that dumb nurse who made a big issue on my old Hep Thread how there is no cure, and printed bunk info from quacks "backing" it up....... where is she now? I'm here likley cured and she is off to never never land......

But for Ritchie, he won't be healthy again until he walks a long hard road, God Bless him and I hope he is blessed as I am.

I love watching and listening to Richie play his drums. Best wishes to him and his family as he fights this.

Real sad to hear this. I know 2 different people who have toured or played with Little Feat and they both said that Richie is the nicest person you could imagine.

I was thinking of hitting the Tuna/Feat Westbury show on LI in a few weeks. I hope he's well and back with the band soon. He's really the back bone of their sound IMO.

Thank you, pops42, for this info. Just gave to the cause. I LOVE Little Feat so much. Richie is a sweetheart! He let me hug him at Bear Creek 2 years ago! My broher met him in SF and was able to do him a favor. My brother loved Little Feat, too, and said Richie was kind and friendly.

I know he can play those drums for all he's worth!

Love you, Richie! We've got your back while you rest and heal.

This news is such a drag.....however--and I don't want to talk politics--how does someone in a band of Little Feat's stature and success....NOT have health insurance? I find it incredible. One frickin' gig would have to pay for at least some sort of catastrophic coverage for that whole band and crew even at ridiculous rates. Could it be tied to 'pre-existing' condition(s) if Hep' C? Now...THAT's politics! Hell....I had a solo catastrophic policy 3 or 4 years ago when I went thru an 'unemployed' time--not COBRA--that cost me about $180 buks a month. Ridiculously high....but I was covered for a disaster. I'm baffled.....

I'm baffled as well. His web site says he lives in Canada. There should be some options there for him.

Prayers to Ritchie. I am a major Feats fan, from the Lowell days and when Billy Payne would play with ABB on occasion. Fred, gosh they are all loved so much. My special prayers out to Ritchie tonight.

One of my favorite performances of Little Feat was when my brother and I
saw 'em on a bill with the Grateful Dead at Giant's Stadium, NJ in June 1991.
Richie was laying down some serious rhythms behind Craig, Fred, Billy, Paul, Sam
and Kenny. I also love Richie's drumming on Warren Zevon's Transverse City.
Sayin' a prayer for Richie tonight.

I just saw Richie with Little feat this past weekend in Norfolk, and he was LAYIN' it down on the skins. Certainly didn't look sick. But this is terrible news. I hope he's able to get some A+ treatment stat.
