Since the '94 studio album and Hittin' the Note, was there any music recorded in the studio? There obviously wasn't a full studio album, but were there any attempts at any studio sessions, and if so, will we ever hear it? Or is it that what there was during that time showed up on HTN and Dickey's Let's Get Together and Collectors..? And how come there wasn't a studio album for that long? I mean, from '94 to '00 when Dickey left is still 6 years-was it just that whatever caused the break up was going on back as far as '94 or earlier? Because listening to WIAB, that's a pretty strong record...you know, usually you hear a band that's having problems before splitting, they're putting out second rate stuff.

There was some studio work done in '95/'96. Apparently, the following-

1) I Know I Oughta Leave
2) Tombstone Eyes
3) House of Blues
4) You Can't Get To Heaven On A $10 Bill
5) Come Back & Help Me
6) Worried Down With the Blues
7) Wolf's A Howlin'
8) Goin' Down the Road & Feelin' Bad

was pretty close to becoming an album.

Butch Trucks personally confirmed what Marley said above (actually, I think Mar got that from me )...

While none of those songs are "bad", and even though some are very good, that wouldn't have been a very strong album. Just compare it to "WIAB", "SOTW" or "HTN", and you'll see that it's very second rate.

I did get that from Frank; I meant to add that you can search and find a couple of threads on the topic of albums that almost were.

Whether or not second rate material i sure would like to hear & own this unreleased material. Some of them ended up on Gregg's solo album and others as live versions on plenty of tapes but i sure would like to get my hands on these studio takes.
I hope they turn up someday (on a legal or illegal release for that matter; stuff like this is priceless). Maybe they can release them on a "Dreams" like boxset overviewing the second half of their career (>1989) together with the recorded material that did not make "HTN".

I don't think there was any recorded stuff left off of HTN (other than alternate takes, anyway). There weren't any other new songs being played that weren't recorded.

Between issues with Dickey, the fact that Gregg did release a few of the songs himself, and the fact that (I agree with the others) it's a pretty mediocre bunch of tunes says to me they won't be released. I won't be waiting up for it, anyway. Frank also posted to another thread about songs around '99 that could've been recorded, but I don't think that would've been much of an album either...

They'd make good bonus tracks on remastered cds. Plus you could throw on outtakes from other albums. "Rocking Horse" was recorded for BWIAB with Gregg on vocals. And I'm pretty sure Warren has mentioned some others. - I was also under the impression that some or many of the above songs mentioned were not really finished. They attempted them, but were unhappy with the results and never finished adding vocals or whatever, which sometimes can make for some pretty lame listening. - Speaking of unreleased ABB material. How many people have heard the full unreleased 7 minute version of "One More Ride" with vocals, from the Idlewild South sessions and the unreleased studio version of "I'm Gonna Move to the Outskirts of Town", from the same sessions?

I haven't, but I assume that you have... Damn, what I wouldn't give to hear that!
