This makes me happy, too, Ann. Don't know the full story but sending some healing thoughts his way (and yours).

That's good news, bigann.

Bhawk, I've always said any day I wake up and I'm not in jail or the hospital is a good day.

No surgery ... not getting hit by a bus ... not having a piano dropped on you from 10 stories above - all signs of a good day and reasons to be happy!

I hope Johnny's health improves to the point where surgery is not even an issue!

Glad to hear that, Ann. Surgery sucks.

This particular one had us worried......his condition isn't lifethreatening but the surgery was.

Now, everyone else jump and tell us why you're all happy.....we need to counterbalance some of the other threads for a while.

I'm happy because it's a beautiful yellow-white-and-blue day here in Middle Earth - not too hot, sun is shining, blue sky with puffy white clouds - and though I currently sit at my work desk (another reason for happiness - employment) it's Friday and the weekend and all of it's possibilities await.

Johnny has complications from the pneumonia he had in April. He was supposed to be operated on today for the problem but the doctor came right out and said it was such an invasive procedure he probably wouldn't survive the surgery. He still has the problem but we're exploring alternative options and yep, I'm so happy that the whole world is beautiful today and I've got enough left over to share with everyone else.

I hope those alternatives to surgery work out!

Great attitude you're showing us.

I'm not going to let anything happen to Johnny......I still have a few tricks up my sleeve....besides, as I keep telling him.....he's not going anywhere....I'm not through with him yet.

"Now, everyone else jump and tell us why you're all happy....."

I have my hands on a copy of Pat Conroy's new book SOUTH OF BROAD and I'm running over to the gulf for a week. When I'm not out fishing the flats- I'll be curled up reading SOB and listening to Oscar Peterson with my two (slightly spoiled) Italian greyhounds snoozing next to me ..

My life has never been perfect-- but still-- I AM HAPPY... : )

BTW: SOB looks like a good summer read. Its more spiritual than Pat's other books- but after Doug Marlette's sudden death two years ago I would be surprised not to see the after effects show in Pat's work. In his eulogy at Doug's funeral- Pat said "The first person to cry, when He heard about Doug's death, was G-d."

ALSO: In Charleston those who live "South of Broad" are the members of the old families with old money. They are SOBs. The SNOBs who live "slightly North of Broad" are "nouveau riche" and only wish they were SOBs..

At the last minute yesterday, I got to take today off for vacation. Nice comfy weather, plenty of exercise, got some stuff done around the house, hung out with my son, and top it off, I had a Mai Tai. Yum! Yum!

Today the sun is shining.....my kitchen is clean and I've only got one load of laundry to do after I get back from the grocery store. And I'm only eight chapters away from finishing the third draft of Johnny's book. It's a good start to the weekend and I'm happy!
