Putting 'Birthers' Questions To Rest?
11.00 am

July 28, 2009

By Mark Memmott

She said it last year and now she's said it again:

President Barack Obama's original birth certificate, showing he was "born in Hawaii and is a natural-born American citizen," is safe and sound in official files, the director of the state's Department of Health said Monday.

Dr. Chiyome Fukino also said in a statement that she'll have nothing more to say about the doubts that so-called birthers have been trying to raise regarding Obama's eligibility to be president.

And, as the Honolulu Advertiser reports, a spokeswoman for Fukino's department yesterday knocked down another theory of the so-called birthers -- who have tried to raise doubts about Obama's eligibility to be president. Some have tried to make the case that birth announcements published in Hawaiian newspapers shortly after the president's Aug. 4, 1961, birth were put their by some of his relatives. The Advertiser writes that:

Such vital statistics, however, were not sent to the newspapers by the general public but by the Health Department, which received the information directly from hospitals, (Health Department spokeswoman Janice) Okubo said.
Also Monday, the House unanimously approved a resolution celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hawaii's statehood. That resolution includes this line:

Whereas the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii;

Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., had initially opposed a vote on the resolution -- arguing that there was not a quorum present. She ended up, however, voting in favor.

Here is something I pulled off the web about Hawaii not being a state. Interesting....far out....but interesting in a perverted sort of way.

"Obama was born in Hawaii. Now Hawaii became part of the US because some immigrant farmers decided they didn't like the government of what was then as sovereign nation (see www.hawaiian-roots.com/timeline.htm) and overthrew said government with the help of some American soldiers that just happened to be there -see the sad history of Queen Liliuokalani (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liliuokalani)

Therefore, Hawaii is not legitimately part of the United States, as Hawaii was a sovereign nation whose government was overthrown in a coup by probably illegal immigrants, and President Obama is a citizen of Hawaii, not the United States.

The birthers are unlikely to accept this argument, as it presupposes an acceptance of native rights and renounces the right of the US to interfere in other countries, whether or not said countries have resources or strategic value."

Maybe he was just counting the Hawaiian Islands individually.

"President Barack Obama's original birth certificate, showing he was "born in Hawaii and is a natural-born American citizen," is safe and sound in official files"

So, let's see it. Put all this alleged nonsense to rest once and for all.

I don't know about you, but my original birth certificate is on file in Nebraska....I never had the original, I can't get the original and all I have to prove I was born in the U.S. is a certified copy. I dare say that's the case with everyone in D.C. too. Also, he was born to an American citizen which automatically confers citizenship on him where ever he was born making him a natural born citizen. Just because my granddaughter was born in Germany doesn't mean she's not American. This whole thing is smoke and mirrors to deflect the fact that the ignorant right wing fanatical *ssholes don't have any ideas to fix this country.

Birth certificates can be forged... Microfiche birth announcements from the Honolulu paper, not so much.

The birthers are claiming that relatives inserted the information in the paper. Of course I don't know who they're claiming lived at the addess listed in the announcement.

This whole issue just shows how much some on the right hate Obama, and that they don't mind looking like idiots in an attempt to pin something scandalous on him. I hope they keep it up. It only shows how irrelevant the Republicans have become. This and their love of Palin is clear evidence they are way past their prime.

Yeah, hand it over to Fox News. I'm sure they will treat it with respect and not try to damage or alter it.

No, I say it goes to somebody impartial, honest, and fair-minded.

Somebody like Dan Rather.

Question....I ask again....do any of you posting here have the ORIGINAL certificate of your birth filed by the state? I don't and I couldn't get it if I tried. They don't let things like that go....only certified copies of which Obama has already produced.

I still have one, and it looks nothing like Obama's even though we were born the same year. Not to say I'm a "birther" though. This is a stupid issue, but one I think the Left secretly gets off on and doesn't want to go away.

Johnny and I were born the same year in different states and our birth certificates....at least the certified copies we have....don't look the same. As for this issue.....please please let it go away. I can't wait for the next ridiculous ploy the right wing is going to come up with!

Were you born in Hawaii too?

And your right about many on the left not wanting this to go away. It really makes the birthers look like idiots. The fact that there is no way to satisfy these people is so funny that you just can't make this stuff up. It does nothing but hurt the Republican party.

No. Texas. I wasn't really referring to the way it's laid out, as I'm sure they vary by State. More the general appearance and how the information was filled in. Mine was obviously filled in by a geezer-codger manual typewriter, splotchy and uneven, looking like a document right out of 1961. The one widely posted as belonging to Obama used a more modern font style and appears to be filled in by a laser printer, perhaps. Very slick.

I'm not worried about the birther movement hurting the Republicans all that much. Not enough to matter. Certainly not in comparison to the bungling going on now by the opposition.

Yeah, far right idiocy is all the fault of the left, like everything else you guys refuse to take responsibility for. Are you saying that liberals are secretly making these requests to the Hawaiian authorities?
