What a fantastic gig this was. Always loved the Georgia Satellites and Dans' solo stuff. Big fan of Jason and the Scorchers too so Warner E Hodges playing guitar with Dan and Homemade Sin is a marriage made in heaven for me. Sats classics, Baird solo classics and some brilliant covers. I Wanna Be Sedated, Hush and a wonderful rocked up version of Neil Youngs' Helpless anyone?
Just a great rock 'n' roll show!
I honestly believe that Dan Baird is one of the great American songwriters and when someone like Tim Mcgraw or Kenny Chesney records, and has a huge hit with "All Over But The Cryin" he will have his just rewards.

Big GS fan here as well. Seen the Satellites in their prime in 1987 and they kicked ass. Also love Dan Baird's solo stuff (Friends of the GS, Homemade Sin, Sofa Kings). Seen him many times and always havin' fun on stage. And i agree, a lot of his song writing is top notch. Cool that "All Over But The Cryin" got mentioned because that is one of my favorites. Dan also toured as guitarist with The Dusters which were cool too. A few years ago i saw Dan Baird in a club in Belgium on the day that Bush got re-elected. Like a lot of people in the world he was dumbstruck & dissappointed and launched into "Helpless".

I was at that show. Propping up the bar near the stage. I thought their version of Bruce Springsteen's "From Small Things" was great. I know a lot of people were surprised "Battleship Chains" wasn't played. A buddy of mine said it was a legal issue or something.

Okay, i'm not saying that i'm 100% sure, but as far as i know it's not a legal issue at all. It just depends on with which band Dan Baird is touring. I recall this from on stage banter and a short chat i had with Dan at one of the shows. He usually plays a handful of GS classics while touring with the band name "Friends Of The Georgia Satellites" or more recent "Homemade Sin". But while touring with "The Yahoos" he plays Yahoos songs and some covers but hardly any GS. When people called out GS requests at the Yahoos shows i've been Dan replied with "That's another band". He's not pissed off or anything; always having fun and friendly. Just different repetoire.

Dan is one of the lost heroes of rock & roll. It's a shame he's not more recognized, especially in the US. The Satellites are one of my all-time favorites. Check out Terry Anderson's Olympic Ass-Kicking Team if you like Satellites/Baird style rock & roll. Great riffs & great wit.

ABBDutchfan, "Battleship Chains" shouldn't be a problem for the Yahoos because it is my understanding that Terry Anderson actually wrote that song. Although it was credited to Dan Baird (something to do with the record co.), I believe Dan made it right with his ol' bud, Terry. Anyway Dan is the man!

A funny story Dan and Terry were in a band called the "Wood Peckers." When Dan left to form or join the Satelites, Terry and the rest changed their name to simply the "Woods." Lol!

The GS lead guitarist Rick Richards went on to play in Izzy Stradlin's band. I really liked their first album.

I understand that it wouldn't be a problem as such and in case of "Battleship Chains"
i didn't know it was actually written by Terry.

What i meant was that Dan probably wants to limit the number of songs played at a Yahoos show that are written for and made popular by the GS. A different band with different songs was his intention when he formed the Yahoos. Would have been pointless for him to tour with 2 different bands but play the same songs.
