Great album, I remember when it came out...my Mom loved it. I first heard it because she had bought it.

1981, Jr. in high school sitting up on the hill above the "smoking" area. Blasting "Harvest" on my old Panasonic boombox.

My favorite Neil album by far

Great album.

I had to buy it for my flatmate once, cos he damn near wore out Decade. Then of course, he did his best to wear Harvest out. Somehow never gets old, though

My favorite Neil album. It has such a cool "laid back" vibe to it.

The restrained steel guitar playing is like nothing I'd ever heard, or heard since.

It grades out with an A+++.

An absolutely timeless classic.

Because of this thread, I'll probably pull it out of the collection right now. Did Neil make anything but classic records in the 70's? I think not.

Great LP. After, After The Goldrush I was expecting something sub par. Nice job Neil and the Stray Gators.

This is one of those classic Neil albums that I never tire of ... even with 35+ years of listening. This is one that always goes in the car for roadtrips.

Harvest, at least among hard-core Neil fans, seems to be one of those albums everybody owns, regardless of whether or not they're a big Neil fan, somewhat along the lines of how there may be found certain albums that even non-music fans will own (not sure of which one, but maybe the Eagles greatest hits or something-an album that every house owns, even though there may not be any avid music fans living there).

However, that is not the case with me, I have always enjoyed Harvest. It's certainly not my favorite, as I tend to like the darker, less commercial albums, but it's one that I like nonetheless. Harvest of course had the Stray Gators on it, which makes it less ragged sounding than some of his other albums (Time Fades Away notwithstanding....). Some people complain that it's an uneven record, and that the orchestra sections are overblown, but I've always liked them.

It's certainly a good record to play to convince people of how good Mistuh Young is.

One interesting thing about Harvest is that Neil likes simplicity, and wanted the Stray Gators to play as simple as possible (i.e., down to the level of Crazy Horse), but even though he didn't want anything extra from the musicians, you can tell there is a big difference between Harvest and albums like ATGR or EKTIN-Harvest still has the more polished sound, recording and playing-wise. Unlike the those two, Harvest lacks that more ragged feel (which of course doesn't make it any better or worse, just different)

I hadn't heard the album since I had it on vinyl as
a teen...so when the remaster came out this week
I was all over it. The sound is remarkable. And the
album itself is better than I remember it. I'd still rank
`EKTIN' and `ATGR' ahead of it, but that's just me.

i'd say most households own these albums in some form even without hugemusic fans living there:
thriller
eagles greatest hits 1
purple rain
born in the usa
rumors

Blessed to have seen Neil on the tour of this album. Was in high school and was the best concert I had ever seen to date and still is one of top 2 or 3 I've ever seen. One of those "perfect" albums, no bum tunes. It is something after this many years to be able to say that, not many albums hold up in time to every song still being great.
