I've heard Warren Haynes and i've heard Derek Trucks both are gifted guitar players and i love there music, that being said...
Neither of them will ever be the most fluid guitar player in the world, that has been and always will be the legendary Dickey Betts.
I don't care how many years it's been, since he's been kicked out of the band, it was wrong of Gregg to kick him out.
Where the hell is the loyalty ? if Dickey had a drinking problem, then Gregg and the band should have tried to help the guy get clean, instead of being a bunch of hypocrites.
Don't call yourself brothers if your not going to have each others backs and help one another through tough times or substance abuse or addictions, because thats what real friends and brothers do, this never would have happened if it was duane (R.I.P.) with the problem instead of Dickey. You don't just send the guy a fax and say your out of of the band after he gave over 30 years of friendship and devotion to the band, thats cold.
I have been an obsessive Brothers fan all my life but i have not bought any Allman Brothers music or seen them in concert since Dickey was kicked out and i never will, unless he's brought back.
There are thousands of Allman's fans that feel the same way i do, Dickey is one of the few original members left and Gregg should cherish him and his friendship as long as he can.
Please like Gregg never drank or did drugs...c'mon, i'm convinced there is no loyalty among bands anymore, it's all about the all mighty dollar and performing 100% at shows or your out on your ass...how sad. ____________________ Let's do some living after we die. |

First of all your making alot of suppositions. You were not in the band or know first hand what went on among the band members. We are all fans of Dickey Betts, that goes without saying. But you have shortchanged yourself by not listening to the Allman Brothers since Dickey was let go.Maybe you really are a Dickey Betts & Great Southern fan ? That's ok. I like them too. But don't go judging other people when you are on the outside looking in ! You also contradict yourself saying that your an obsessive Allman Brothers fan. You can't be. You haven't listened to them in YEARS. You really don't know what your talking about. |

I don't know. I saw the Allman Brothers at the Greek a few months ago. They were there in flesh, blood, talent and spirit.
Next time, you might want to take this umtpeenth argument to the Anything Goes Forum and or to Dickey's site. You'll probably get plenty of responses. Then again, it's been rehashed a billion times good, bad, or indifferent. It's all good!

C'mon already! It's that kind of attitude that spreads to the current band members. All that negativity can cause the current lineup to throw in the towel! Be appreciative of what we have now. ____________________ Fred Evans

I seriously doubt anyone in the current band reads this crap.
Throw in the towel....they are made of stronger stuff. They don't
get their feelings hurt so easily.
Better left alone. |

I've seen the ABB with Duane and again when Berry was still alive after Duane was gone. I've seen them with Lamar, the early Warren years, with Jimmy Herring, and the current line-up. I love Dickey Betts - loved him with this band and happy that he's got a band for promoting that beautiful music that is so quintessentially his. But I still love the ABB line-up that is touring and playing today - a LOT - and do consider them to be the Allman Brothers (and probably the final line-up of this band). ____________________ "Come on down to the Mermaid Cafe and I will buy you a bottle of wine, and we'll laugh and toast to nothing and smash our empty glasses down..." |

Look at all the bands in the history of rock music. There are always issues. The Beatles,Oasis etc. The list goes on. I was surprised to see this thread resurrected.I felt like my wrist got slapped !! But, I was just trying to stick up for the current line up(not that they need my help !).What goes on in a band is between them. It's family, like a marriage. Sometimes people get divorced, even if their family and friends are upset. |

Um, let's see. There's no Jefferson Airplane without Signe Toly Anderson. No Beatles without Pete Best or Stu Sutcliffe. No Rolling Stones without Brian Jones. No Grateful Dead without Pigpen. And what about that chick screamer who stole the limelight in Big Brother and the Holding Company? She hijacked the whole band, fer cryin' out loud!
And so on.
Dickey added tremendously, but he came into the band because Duane wanted to steal Berry from the Second Coming. Berry and Dickey were inseparable, so Duane stole Dickey as well. Without Berry, would Dickey have been there?
