I'd go for Neil Peart closely followed by John Bonham and Cozy Powell

It would have to be Matt Abts for me .

Perhaps the only drummer who has NEVER lost me to a beer run or restroom break during his solo.

The word transfixed comes to mind...

Billy Cobham better get on the list.

Richie Hayward is my favorite drummer working 'solo' as such....with apologies to LF's percussionist Sam Clayton.

I have seen Billy Cobham at a small club in Dayton, Ohio. The guy is a monster.
Also saw Buddy Rich in that same club several times. I would say Buddy is hands down the best drummer ever.

Also saw Terry Bozzio in a drum clinic. This guy is just on another planet.

Saw Ginger Baker in clinic also. He has a very strange style but was very impressive.

I would have to say Buddy Rich is the best I have ever seen.

I agree with Drummy about Buddy Rich. AMAZING.. My Dad took me to see him around 65'.

Also should mention Krupa (video) and Shrieve (live).

Keith Carlock is another great drummer. I saw him with Steely Dan last month and was blown away.

One's that I've seen in person ... 1. Vinnie Cailuta (sp?) w/ Allen Holdsworth 2. Rod Morgenstern w/ the Steve Morse Band 3. Artemis Pyle w/ Walking Outside at the Village Cove a neighborhood bar in Mooresville, NC mid-eighties believe-it-or-not.
