Chicks to break with Country Scene - from Ananova.com

The Dixie Chicks say they don't want to be a Country Band any more.

"Violinist (isn't that a bit of a stretcchhhhhhhhh)" Martie Maguire said, "We don't feel part of the Country scene any longer, it can't be our home anymore."

She said she was disappointed that other Country singers didn't back up the Dixie Chicks in their criticism of George W. Bush's policies in Iraq.

"A few weeks ago, Merle Haggard said a couple of nice words about us, but that was it. The support we got came from others, like Bruce Springsteen."

Going home empty handed from the Country Awards ceremony also made them decide to break from the scene, Maguire said.

"Instead, we won 3 Grammys against much stronger competition." So now we consider ourselves part of the big Rock N' Roll family."

I can see it now - The Brothers opening for the Chicks!

Yeah, they should just get with Cheryl Crowe and just RAWK on out! Maybe they could open for Bon Jovi.

sbowen, they are just saying that they don't feel they fit into the country music scene any more. I don't think they really did in the first place, they are country pop music just a lot of the other so called country bands lately.

Now when I think country music, I think Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings (God rest his soul), Hank Jr., Emmylou Harris, Patsy Cline, and so on. The newer country is just too pop sounding for me. It is a whole other genre of music IMO.

Bob, did you insert all of those emoticons yourself, or were they included in the source document?

the country that I like is Willie Nelson, of course, Hank Williams Jr, Johnny Cash, and Kenny Rogers (yeah I know, but "the gambler" is killer!)

Me too. I like the old stuff. I mean, really. Last time i was in the city, I don't think I saw a guy standing in the middle of the street with a cowboy hat on. And if I did, I didn't think to myself, 'hey, there's a cowboy there'. It's so insane now, it's just plain mad. You know, you hear (I forget who, whatever video flavor of the month) what's her name's country single on the pop station-and there it is, it's a pop song because they just took the crying steel guitar out of it. Then you go to the 'country station', and there's the song with the cry-in-your-beer steel guitar. So that's what it is now? A cowboy hat and a steel guitar and you have 'country music'.

It really sounds like they are boo-hoo-hooing because they didn't win any trophies...so I guess they're gonna take their ball and go home. Gee, I can't wait to hear them rock out!

I can honestly say I have not listened to or bought any records or attended any DC concerts since they said what they said in England.

I have also not attended any Lee Greenwood shows either....or Toby Keith.

Well, Lee and Toby are good Americans, just saying I am giving them similar treatment as those outcast Chicks...who are bad Americans. I don't much care for any of their so called music...the good or the bad Americans in Country Pop...

Funny you should ask....................Martie herself did that whilst "violinning," thus demonstrating her virtuosity on her instrument!

You know, I believe I read somewhere that Fee Waybill (the Tubes) might have already done that. From what I understand he has the Tommy Lee syndrome.

Kenny Rogers is country?????

I thought The First Edition was a 60's psychedelic band.

Ya don't hear Waylon, Merle, Willie, Johnny or any real country
artists playing on Country Radio.

Shania, Dixie Chicks, etc are pop bands for "Country" radio.
Nothing wrong about that if ya dig it.

Chicks and Eagles are doing a concert for Free Speech
in DC. At $80 a pop for tickets. Not very free.

Peace
John

They were not embraced by the Rock and Roll family they were taken in by the mob and the mob is fickle. They are finished as a serious music act not because of their politics and not because of their music it is simply because they are clueless.
