Between he and Mike Campbell, they have the coolest, bestus collection of vintage guitars and I'm jealous.
I'm watching their show on Soundstage now on the Palladia network and I can't believe they actually travel with such an arsenal. I wonder how many folks are on their payroll to guard this glittering hoard?

I like him on King of the Hill.

Wonder how much he made doing that show?

A few years ago I was backstage at the Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland, OR just before Jonny Lang was supposed to play something like a hour and half set. They had three huge road cases on wheels each holding maybe 20 guitars in their cases, all labeled as to the vintage. There was another rack full of guitars and a mobile guitar repair station. All for 1 1/2 hours tops! Don't ask me what he sounded like because I went and watched Texas Johnny Brown turn in a stellar show on one guitar.

I put a Hammertone Octave 12-string on Ebay a couple years ago, and I get this email from Mr. Petty...

He wants to know if I'd hand deliver it to the Gorge if he won it.
There would be front row seats waiting for me if "yes"...

Needless to say, he won, and needless to say, I delivered it...

Love Tom Petty. So many bands have a zillion guitars with them on the road and switch them for every song. Sometimes necessary, often not. They do it because they can.
Some are from their private collection some are endorsements. Doesn't bother me.

His last album was actually Mudcrutch. And it may be my all-time favorite TP album. Absolutely great.

I have Highway Companion. I think it's good. Saving Grace is a great tune.
I also saw the Highway Companion tour where they were co-headlining
with the ABB in Saratoga Springs, NY in 2006. Great night of music.

Not much to tell, really...

We were given crew passes, but not backstage passes, so no meeting Tom and Mike...

I handed the guitar off to Robert Scoville, who was doing FOH sound...

It was a really fun night, though, with the Black Crowes opening...

HIghway companion and mudcrutch are awesome...my wife and I flew to Raleigh, NC for a weekend since that was the only time we would be able to catch his tour they were handing out free downloads of mudcrutch really good stuff. Steve Winwood opened the show and actually sat in with Tom and played a few tunes really awesome show and nice outdoor venue.

If you asked Tom Petty how many guitars is enough, would he say "just one more" ?
