I always liked Randy California and the guys. The Video history is pretty good.

I wore out the record of Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus, one of the best alblums of that time. I did see Jay Ferguson's Jo Jo Gunne in concert back around 1973, another good band.

gawd what a band! talent to burn. randy california was one of the most incredible guitarists i've ever heard live. died way too young.

some people may know but some may not, that jimi hendrix gave randy the last name of california when randy played with him as a 15 year old teenager in new york right before jimi made it big. in fact jimi wanted to take randy to england with him but randy's parents wouldn't let him go. who knows what could have been if.......

There was a photo of Kapt Kopter & the (fabalous) Twirly Birds album cover.
over the period of a few hours it became a big blank box with a lil red x in the upper
left hand corner

I've had this lp since I was a pup and it smokes

Are those available somewhere??
I would put Spirit on the top of the list of 60's bands that never got recorded well in a live situation, so I'd love to hear those if "yes"...

Saw them live back in the day many times, most notably opening for Cream 2 nights in a row at the Anaheim Convention Center in '68...

I remember '69 but not '70...at APF. Were they at Atlanta 2? I spent a lot of time away from the main stage the second year.

also heard them a few years later in Orlando after the split that made jo jo gunne. different sound but still good guitar work.

Spirit was nice live, a little beef I have is they didn't do the double guitar leads that RC dubbed in the studio.

Still enjoyed their set once my ear adjusted.

I may have dreamed this up in a 'stupor' but didn't Bro-Gregg and Randy California become pretty close friends when GA lived in the San Fran area a few years back? Seems like I read an interview or heard that Gregg was pretty shook when Randy passed away as well....

Anybody help on that.......?

There's a nice audience recording floating around of the first evening, with both the Poco and Spirit sets...

Nature's Way was written that afternoon, and played that evening for the first time....

Isnt Lee Michaels a B3 player who played only with a drummer?

Anyway Spirit is a very good band from the 60s and 70s

I haven't thought about this band lately. Maybe I will dust off 12 dreams and give it a listen. I saw them once in Dec 1971 opening for Bloodrock at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium. Crabby Appleton was also on the bill. Does anyone know what the lineup for Spirit was in late '71? Was Ferguson and California still both in the band? I do remember the bald drummer!

I think the original band was still together in latre '71. I don't think Ferguson split to form jo Jo Gunne until maybe sometime in '72.
Didn't California form Capt. Kopter and the Whirlybirds or something like that?
