As the song goes...."Have you heard the news...??? Dewey Cox died....!" The parallels between today's horrible news and the passing of "COX" only a couple of years ago cannot be denied. After all...Dewey also had a 'monkey'. And as Dewey told his first wife, Edith when she left...."You can take the children....but there's no WAY, you're taking my monkey!" You can't really blame Dewey....because Edith was often quoted: "Of course I BELIEVE in you Dewey....I just don't think you're gonna 'make it'!"
I'm sure Haisija, et.al, will agree on these observations..... ____________________ Brodana |

Powerful first verse of the song he did on "Sullivan" during his early "Dylan Phase"....
"Mailboxs drip like lamposts in the twisted birth canal of the Coliseum...
Brickjob fairies' teapots mask the temper tantrums...
Oh say, can you see 'em?
Stuck cabbages..the darlings of the of the laundrymat..
The mouse with the overbite explains how the rabbits fatten...."
or something like that....Nobody living or now dead has ever matched Dewey's stuff. ____________________ Brodana |

Thanks FJ.....just found this rare clip as well of Dewey singing a song so relevant today. It was recorded live on his final tour in 2007 in NYC. That tour of course was called "Cox Over America Tour".

Oddly, I just watched this movie last night...
Not sure I thought it was all that....like some here obviously did.
I guess my recommendation (unsolicated) would be, don't spend any money to watch it and don't expect too much.
It is a sort of stupid parody, if you are into that sort of movie. ____________________ You want to talk to me

That's the point! It's a brilliant parody. There are so many hidden pokes and jabs at the world of 'music', 'icon's' and every music 'bio' picture ever made that it takes several viewings to get them all. Any musician.....as well as music-lover who somewhat studies music history will--and seem to--love it. Give it another try! ____________________ Brodana |

One of the funniest things to come from the film was a brief tour that John C. Reilly did as Dewey. It was called "The Cox Across America Tour". Here's a video of him playing in Nashville -

Yo Bro'!....
My daughters got me the DVD--extended version for birthday last week. Just delving into all the 'special features'. One of note for Allman Brother fans is an 'alternative scene' to the part where Dewey and Darlene..."Go drop acid with the Beatles!" As a part of the animated sequence, they are carrying mushrooms to and fro' doing funny little dances...it is hysterical. Try to find it if renting or purchasing (19.95 I think).....also 'interview' section with the likes of Sheryl Crow, Jackson Browne, Lyle Lovett and others who discuss how Dewey 'influenced' them. Sheryl deserves an academy award....."The only reason I got into the music 'business' was because of 'Cox'!" She keeps the straightest face you can imagine! ____________________ Brodana |

WALK HARD Sang!!!

After "Nate's" death at the beginning....Dewey's Mother sends him...."..to the country store to get a stick of butter and a candle." At the store, Dewey walks into the back room and observes two 'old bluesmen' doing some jamming. They instruct this 6 year old Dewey on "Blues music" and he becomes and instant prodigy. The guitar player--singer is "HoneyBoy" Edwards who is one of the last direct links to Robert Johnson...reputed to be Roberts' cousin....certainly his friend. Honeyboy has to be near 90. Saw him once at Chicago Bluesfest....very kewl performance. There are some other cameos in the movie.
