Thanks BV! Made my morning. Jessica is just plain wonderful fun. It is my favorite to play air piano too.

We've all had these moments but one day going to work (around 5:00) I was in a bit of a foul mood. Tired of listening to the sports yahoos, I put on the local FM station. Bang! Jessica just started. I cranked the radio. My fingers were going up and down the top of the dash board. I'm holding the stering wheel with my knees while playing the guitar parts. It was all good. Suffice to say, I was in a much better mood! If radio only had a re-dial.

Thanks Dickey! Thanks Chuck! Thanks Les Dudeck too (he helped write it)!

I've had very similar experiences with ABB songs. Jessica is one of the most joyous tunes I've ever heard. It instantly transforms your mood.

For an out of this world version of Jessica, featuring Chuck on piano, pick up the Instant Live of ABB at New Orleans Jazz Festival, 5/5/07. Chuck's solo is completely off the charts, but then, the entire song is on that performance.

He did some amazing ones at the Beacon in 2001 including 3/23 and 3/25. 3/23 may be my favorite live rendition ever.

I am nearly certain that the posted clip of Chuck Leavell discussing "Jessica" was taken from Chuck's keyboard instructional DVD. I owned it at one time when I was tinkering with the keyboards but I never got beyond early beginner's stage. One viewing of the DVD told me that it really was designed to take an intermediate player on to a more advanced stage. It was way beyond the level I was at, so I gave it to my brother who is a professional guitarist but is taking up keys on the side.

I agree, I LOVE these versions. May be my favorite all time versions ever of the song.

I did love that 5/07 version too, but there is something magical happening on the 01 versions that just can't be topped. I can never decide if I prefer 3/23 to 3/25 or the other way around. My 3/23/01 version is way better quality though. I think they did it on 3/24 too? (maybe I'm wrong) but that of course was great.

As a very very different take on the song, the version from 8/16/94 is excellent. So cool. I like it better than the 7/1/94 (which was released on 2nd Set and won the grammy). There is just something about the way both Dickey & Warren play on 8/16 and Jaimoe's drumming adds a lot on the 8/16 version (it's Paul Riddle on 7/1)

Super interesting. Not many people knew that Gregg was right up there with them in playing this song. I really like the Wipe the Windows version where one can really hear Gregg's B3 pumping.

Agreed. It's a great tune, but just not the same w/out Chuck's piano.

chuck's solo on jessica is overrated. and i'm not sure why the stones, clapton, allmans, blues traveler, etc. think he's sooooo great.
