Thought the first set by the ABB on the first night was HOT
Clapton came on in the 2nd set and right before his solo in 'Dreams'
his pick went flying and he fingerpicked the whole solo. He looked
way uncomfortable there. Finished the set, pretty good overall.

The next night, the ABB first set was OK considering the previous night,
and the second set with Clapton was virtually the same, save for one
song, but he was totally into and played really fine. Pick and all.

I have a disc of a radio broadcast with the dtb where Derek references this. On the disc, he is chuckling as he tells of seeing E.C. lose his pick, watches Eric look for it for a moment and then continue playing without it. Derek says something like. "I saw the pick and thought about picking it up to hand to him and thought No, it'll be good to watch him play without one"...

The one show I saw on the 19th one of the best concert experiences I've ever had in my life. 2 hours, 25 minutes + intermission and not a wasted note. The electricity in the air could have been cut with a knife. The final 5 minutes of Why Does Love Have To Be so Sad was probably the top concert minutes of my life. Chills.

Something often lost in the "Clapton shows" is an outstanding Oncoming Traffic to open the 3/19 2nd set - that was one of my highlights from the trip.

But top to bottom and side to side, I'll take the 3/20 show over 3/19. And that includes my preference for the 1st set 3/20 over 3/19's 1st set. The only thing that could have made 3/20 better would have been a very deserving double encore.

I was lucky enough to choose both of the Clapton nights for my last Beacon run well before we all knew when he would grace the stage. I agree that the second night was better in that EC seemed to know the songs a little better-he wasn't merely soloing but joining instead. I thought the songs were great both nights but Stormy Monday was just awesome.
