Here in San Diego, we have a Fresh Seafood joint called "Point Loma Seafoods"..walk in place your order over a counter of fresh fish, get a number and wait for it to be called. GREAT Fresh Fish!... They have a section devoted solelyy to "Smoked" fish,..Wahoo, Ahi, Mahi Mahi... I'm chowing down on a big chunk of Wahoo w/some brown rice right now and an Ice Cold Moosehead. Just awesome.

You making me hungry. I have not eaten much smoked fish, but am willing to give it a try. I had just got finished reading some info on trolling for king mackerel. It indicated that some folks like to smoke their KM's. I just bought a new Sea Hunt Triton 177 Center Console and I can't wait to hit the saltwater. Usually a surf fisherman, I have been reading up on fishing from a boat, which is much different. I am chomping at the bit to catch my second KM. I caught a 30 pounder years back when I went out fishing on a company outing.

Sounds like great fun! Kippers are smoked herring - in a can, but delicious. Here in the Upper Midwest, we smoke northern pike - very good. Of course, smoked salmon is a favorite almost everywhere.

Point Loma Seafoods has it's own boats that go out every day. Everything in the store is caught daily. The Dungeness crab sandwich on sourdough is to die for.

RP, get us a pic of that boat bro! I love smoked Salmon. My parents bring back some from Alaska every time they visit. My dad's client up there is Native American, and they have a salmon fishing outfit that is supposed to produce some killer good eats!

Whats up Drew...........good to see you back. Been awhile. Mine is just like this but with a Bimini top and a Yamaha 115HP. I went ahead and added a Garmin Fishfinder/GPS, VHF radio, and a amfm/cd player with ipod hookups.

By the way these boats are made near you all in Columbia SC.

Do you smoke fish in a regular smoker? Can you smoke em on a regular grill. I use to have a electric smoker but it got old and nasty, wires frayed etc. Had to ditch it.

RP, that is a great boat. I see them a lot on lake Murray. Hope to see ya out this summer.

Yes, you can smoke fish on a regular smoker, just have to make sure you keep the temp real low. I imagine any old cheapy would do. I use a cheap brinkman for smoking Butts & Ribs.

Love all kinds of fish as well. Had a fabulous smoked swordfish when I was in Italy 2 years ago. We were in a beach town called Rimini, and had raw smoked swordfish cut razor thin in slices with their homemade house white. Awesome!!

Love smoked fish. Had a friend who brought back some fresh trout from a fishing trip up north and we smoked those using a Weber ((HUGE trout I might add!! Am used to trout fishing in streams and these were gigantic compared to what I'm used to catching!) Anyway, it was wonderful!

Thanks for the tip on Point Loma Seafood, BigV. Will remember that next time I'm in SanDiego (last time I was in SD had some really great cioppino at a seafood restaurant along the ocean but not sure if it was same place).

This place is kind of hard to find if you're not a local. It's on the back side of San Diego Bay, near Shelter Island.

Only had smoked salmon and smoked trout. Really enjoyed both of them.
Had smoked oysters out of a can once, thought I bit into a piece of dog **** .

I love smoked fish, though I much prefer the cold smoked version like lox. We get tons of smoked fish up here out of Lake Superior. Whitefish, salmon, trout and tulibee mostly. I can eat only a small amount of these hot-smoked varieties, but I can gorge like a bear on lox.
