Yeah, I know. It should be played in open E, or at least open D capo'd at the 2nd fret.

But I love the song and don't want to have a guitar laying around tuned to open E or D. I just want to pick up the guitar and play it when the mood strikes.

Tab would be appreciated if ya got it.

Thanks as always to you helpful souls out there.

Sorry but I gotta say it should be played in open E or D and not standard. I have never tackled it, except about two chords in to it, when it felt and sounded completely wrong. If you decide to do it please post the tabs and I'm sure there will be lots to give it a run!

Peace~!

Good stuff Haisija. Sounded pretty darn good to me.

Can you expand on what you were playing as I'm not exactly that good at figuring that stuff out. By any chance do you have it tabbed out?

Would really like to see you're latest version.

I don't think it's a question of how it should be played. Learning to play it in any key is an accomplishment. I can only speak for myself in that when I discovered open tunings... so many new doors opened. Little Martha and slide guitar were amongst the first things that became markedly easier.

I get where you're coming from, and I've played some open G and E, but this would be one of those go to songs when I pick up the guitar. It's just a great song to play.

Thanks, but I really have refined it and its much more presentable. It would be quicker to come show you than it would be for me to tab it out.

Jon, Of course you would figure it out and make it sound like a million bucks! That is incredible. After listening to your version I think it compliments the open E version very well. Almost as if that could be the other guitar part from the original Duane/ Dickey version. I would love to hear your version played along with the open E version (maybe a little youtube/home laptop action!)

thanks for sharing this....I know what I am goingt to be trying to learn this weekend. Even just to break into it in standard tuning is a great little fill.....like when Derek throws it in on My Favorite Things...just if I am playing it....not nearly as cool...

Thank you Chris.

The real bitch was when all I had was a Martin Tenor guitar somebody gave me.
I had no idea how it should have been tuned, so I tuned it d a d f#.
I actually had a Little Martha I did that I thought was pretty cool sounding on that jobber.

several years ago (around '90) I made a version on my TEAC 4 track...in standard. had a different arr.

the melody line I did with double stops, think the Blue Sky riff. second guitar track regular chords in standard, a bit of mandolin, and a bass part.

homemade, a bit of hot level here and there, and a clam or two.

for those who would like to check it out it's on my "solo" myspace page , not the trio one.

it's labeled "small martha", I'll leave it up for a couple weeks.

This isn't in standard, but it is Leo Kottke. I just thought y'all might enjoy it.

Mighty fine arangement. I love his jazz arrangement of the bridge. Plus the harmonics at the beginning are pretty cool too.

It took me the better part of an hour to watch this video on dial-up.

I appreciate the kind words (sympathy ), that thing's nearly 20 years old and bouncing tracks on that old TEAC...levels were hard to maintain and sometimes things didn't pop out as wrong until the final mix.

Plus, I lack patience in the record mix process...there's a reason engineers and producers exist!
