We are pleased to announce that Gov't Mule's eighth studio album, and first with new bassist Jorgen Carlsson, is titled "By A Thread" and will be in stores on July 28th, 2009 and is available now for PRE-ORDER. This album was recorded over the first few months of this year, and the recording process was captured via Blog, Photos and Video at www.mule.net/inthestudio.

Those who pre-order the disc will receive an exclusive digital download of live Gov't Mule recordings. These recordings, Mule Tracks Presents: The Soundchecks, will be made during rehearsals and the first few soundchecks from the Summer Gov't Mule Tour. The band wanted to make the pre-order bonus a little more special this time around, we will have more details on this to follow in the coming weeks. There will be a FLAC or MP3 option when you download. There is also a special "By A Thread" t-shirt that you can buy with the CD for an extra $10. PRE-ORDER THE RECORD HERE. To read the full album Press Release head to The Gov't Mule Press Page.

New Govít Mule Incoming
05/21/2009

Album drops July 28 amid mucho road work.

By Blurt Staff

BLURT fave Gov't Mule has completed work on 'By A Thread'. Their first studio album in three years, it is slated for release on July 28th, with a special presale beginning today at www.mule.net.

Now a quartet, lead by lead guitarist and frontman Warren Haynes, joined by drummer Matt Abts, keyboardist Danny Louis and new bassist Jorgen Carlsson, the band is planning a full-scale summer of activity, with nearly 40 dates in the U.S. alone, to be followed by additional touring plans in the fall.

Recorded largely in the Texas Hill Country at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in 2009, the album's origins are apparent from the first track, "Broke Down On The Brazos," named after the nearby river, with a deep Texas stomp for the backbeat and featuring the trademark guitar-work of ZZ Top founder Billy Gibbons. Perhaps less descriptively named, "Steppin' Lightly" is another burner, set off by the soulful vocals and mind-bending guitar work of Haynes, who proves anew why Rolling Stone named him one of the Top 25 guitarists of all time.

"This record feels like we're moving between the future and the past," says Haynes. "At heart, it feels like we're breaking new ground without forgetting our roots."

Other highlights include the lament "Railroad Boy," informed by both Celtic tradition and the Mississippi Delta; the expansive psych-rock of 'Monday Mourning Meltdown"; and the optimistic 'Frozen Fear," with its lush harmony and even a hint of rocksteady skank.

A full slate of summer dates for the Mule have already been announced, with stops including Bonnaroo and Haynes' own Mountain Jam festival at the end of May, with additional dates planned for September and beyond. Check the Mule website for tour itineraries.

Track Listing:

1. Broke Down On The Brazos 6:19
2. Steppin' Lightly 7:10
3. Railroad Boy 5:03
4. Monday Mourning Meltdown 8:08
5. Gordon James 3:48
6. Any Open Window 4:45
7. Frozen Fear 5:48
8. Forevermore 4:17
9. Inside Outside Woman Blues #3 9:04
10. Scenes From A Troubled Mind 723
11. World Wake Up 5:54

Very cool! They are offering it in download form in flac or mp3 on the day it is released so you don't have to wait. I don't need the jewel case and can get the liner notes off the web. Or I could just be a little patient and order the CD.

Does that mean they scratched the songs they completed last year with Andy Hess? When Warren talked about the new Mule album early in the year he said it would have songs already completed with Andy and songs with Jorgen.

I would hope so. Makes no sense for Andy to be on any more Mule discs. Jorgen will do just fine for us. On that I am completely sure.

Just tried to pre-order the new disc but kept getting the message 'bill to country is restricted for this item.' Anybody have an idea why it won't let me purchase the discs. Its the same card I ahve used before on musictoday without any problems.

Well, I was wondering the same thing. For the last album Warren said they had to drop a bunch of songs they had finished for HIGH & MIGHTY, some were co-written with Danny. From the sounds of it, I was really curious to hear them. Plus I loved that album. BUT, if they just had Jorgen redo the bass or something that would be cool. - I just hope to hear the songs! I've been digging Jorgen a lot though...

But I want to hear those songs too.
